On the 75th anniversary of the death of a woman whose mistreatment sparked the formation of regional conferences, an organization is hoping to raise aware and remedy discrimination within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Conscience and Justice Council comprised of public affairs and religious liberty leaders in regional conferences and universities across North America issued a proclamation declaring Oct. 30 as Lucille Byard day.

The 20th anniversary of the historic global satellite evangelistic event dubbed “NET '98” was celebrated at Pioneer Memorial Church (PMC) during their Oct. 6 worship services. During the service, PMC Pastor Dwight K. Nelson recalled the moment when the uplink went live from the church located on the campus of Andrews University for the five-week preaching series: “Twenty years ago, Oct. 9, 7:15 in the evening, somebody in that mezzanine level hit a switch and at the speed of light a beam from two satellite trucks shot up to a bevy of satellites belting the planet. One signal from here, six continents, more than 100 nations, 40 languages, and 7,600 downlink sites, all watching simultaneously.”

Before sunrise on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, forty excited students and four chaperones embarked on a four-day tour of Washington, D.C., and the surrounding areas to visit law schools and network with congressional officials, senators, and U.S. ambassadors. As ambassadors wherever they went, the History and Political Science students were dubbed “The God Squad” by some D.C. locals during their tour.

An asylum claim submitted by the Seventh-day Adventist Church on behalf of an Iranian student who converted to Adventism in the United States was recently granted, ending a four-year process.

The 29th annual Society of Adventist Communicators convention took place at the North American Division headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, Oct. 18-20, 2018. This letter is written by Daniel R. Jackson says, "I address the letter to Emma, a young woman, who is very discouraged in light of Sunday’s outcome. My letter is meant for her and for all the Emmas, Judys, Philips and Franks."

The Grammy Award-winning Parker Quartet will headline the next Anna H. Wang Presidential Concert Series performance on the campus of Washington Adventist University on Saturday evening, Nov. 10, 2018. The Parker Quartet will also work with selected WAU students during a master class on at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.

A film produced by the North American Division Stewardship Department and One Mustard Seed seeks to teach parents and children on what it means to be a good steward. The Mysterious Note is available for churches to use Oct. 22-Feb. 22, 2019, as part of an evangelistic and/or fundraising campaign.
