Walla Walla University Engineering Majors Chosen as Competition Finalists

During their senior year, Luke Graham and Avianna Alvarez, Walla Walla University engineering alumni, were two of 16 student finalists chosen for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Pressure Vessel Piping Conference student paper competition. PVP Conference offers a platform for students and engineers to keep up with new technologies and network with experts. It is a recognized international forum with participants from more than 40 countries. At the 2024 conference in July, Graham and Alvarez presented their work to a group of 40 engineers from around the world.

Jack J. Blanco, former dean of the Southern Adventist University School of Religion and professor emeritus, and author of The Clear Word Bible paraphrase, passed peacefully to his rest on Sabbath, January 11, 2025. He was 95.

Adventist Health Glendale and Adventist Health Global Mission are partnering with the Southern California Conference and the Pasadena Seventh-day Adventist Church to begin offering help (and hope) for residents of Altadena and Pasadena affected by the ongoing fires. The initial phases of response began Jan. 10, 2025, and will continue during the coming months.

On Wednesday evening, January 8, 2025, the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted a special prayer meeting to launch the world church’s 10 Days of Prayer with emphasis on "Seeking God's Spirit" for Pentecost 2025. “We’re delighted to have you here with us tonight. We’re excited about what God is going to do and about His promises, and tonight, we’re going to claim those promises.” NAD president G. Alexander Bryant said in his greetings.

NAD leaders engaged in conversation with college students on May 12, 2018, during the third “Is This Thing On?” video live stream. The two-hour broadcast took place on the campus of Walla Walla University, where more than 200 gathered in the Winter Educational Complex to ask questions on many topics. Thousands more watched online.

On Friday, March 30, 2018, Mykhaylo M. Malakhov, a sophomore mathematics major and J.N. Andrews Honors Scholar at Andrews University, was awarded the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, the most prestigious national award for undergraduates who intend to pursue careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.

La Sierra University Wind Ensemble Debuts at Carnegie Hall

On the evening of March 15, La Sierra University’s Wind Ensemble led by conductor Giovanni Santos walked onto one of the world’s most eminent stages where many of music’s greatest talents have dazzled audiences with their skill. The ensemble of more than 40 La Sierra musicians made their debut at New York City’s Carnegie Hall performing published pieces as well as new works written by Santos, adjunct music professor and Emmy-winner Gary Kuo, and tenor Anthony Léon, an award-winning music major at La Sierra.

Adventist Educator V. Bailey Gillespie, Passes to His Rest

It is with great sadness that La Sierra University shares the news that Dr. V. Bailey Gillespie, 75, passed to his rest on Monday, May 7, 2018. Gillespie, tireless in his efforts to help the Adventist Church reach young people for Christ and support their faith development, spearheaded the Valuegenesis research project.
