OneTeam Playbook 2020 to Conclude “Convention” Phase This Weekend

The OneTeam Playbook 2020 Leaders Convention  (#oneteamNAD) shifted gears from an onsite meeting that was planned in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to an all-digital platform conference. The convention was also extended to include four Sunday afternoons in September and October. The last session will occur this Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, concluding the “convention” phase of this event.

On October 13, 2020, the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its global humanitarian arm, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), announced the second phase of the Every Child. Everywhere. In School. campaign during this year’s global church leadership meetings. The joint initiative will now mobilize government support in countries around the world through the Adventist Church 22-million-plus membership.

School Kids Get 5,000 Backpacks Through ADRA, La Sierra University Partnership

When 9-year-old Quetzalli Dominguez opened her new backpack to find the colored pencils and other school supplies inside it was almost like Christmas. “I love it,” she said, smiling behind her face mask decorated with small hearts. The youngster received one of the 5,000 green and black school backpacks filled and distributed during August and September through a partnership with La Sierra University and the Adventist Development and Relief Agency.

New York City Issues Occupancy Certificate for Adventist-Sponsored Senior Housing

The City of New York has issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for the newly-completed Northeastern Towers Annex. The administration of the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists conceived the project due to a growing backlog of applications in the original Northeastern Towers building. The new building is adjacent to the original 110-unit tower built nearly 40 years ago. On October 7, 2020, conference administrators were joined by the office staff for a visit and inspection of the completed premises.

David Smith has announced that he will retire in May 2021 at the conclusion of his fifth year as president of Southern Adventist University. Smith has a long relationship with the institution, where he began teaching English in 1981, serving 17 years as professor and then department chair.

In what may be a first for Adventist publishing, Andrews University has released a small book containing only the biblical books of Daniel and Revelation, with study notes, in the form of a study journal. More than 5,000 pastors in North America will receive the book during the next few months.

U.S. Department of Education Awards $483,900 Title Grant to Southwestern Adventist University

Southwestern Adventist University has been awarded a Title V grant by the U.S. Department of Education’s Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program. Over the next five years, SWAU will receive around half a million dollars each year, for a total of just over $2.5 million.
