More than 2,200 Adventist youth and young adult ministry leaders from across North America spent much of their Labor Day weekend attending the three-day North American Division (NAD) Youth and Young Adult Ministries OneTeam Playbook 2020 Leaders Convention.

Churches around the country are signing up to take part in ACTS 20:21—a 16-month evangelism cycle initiative for NAD churches. Presented by It Is Written, ACTS 20:21 begins October 9, 2020 and includes six evangelistic events, effective training, a brand new, comprehensive database and outreach management app, soul-winning resources and direct social media advertising.

When Hurricane Laura made landfall along the Texas-Louisiana border on August 27, 2020, Adventist Community Services Disaster Response (ACS DR) was ready to respond. Before the storm, the organization reached out the other partners such as FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), the American Red Cross, and Salvation Army, to plan how best to help those affected by the storm. “Louisiana has confirmed that they want us to operate and manage a warehouse,” said W. Derrick Lea, North American Division (NAD) ACS DR director.

Many pastors have the desire to conduct online evangelistic meetings, but may not have the necessary equipment or resources to do it themselves. In response to this need, SermonView has organized a nationwide online evangelistic series, starting Oct. 9, 2020, and is available to any church or individual in the North American Division.

What has been forecast and talked about for the last week materialized early this morning around 1 a.m. in Louisiana as Hurricane Laura touched down with 150 m.p.h. winds, the strongest to make landfall in the state since 1856. Although the storm has now weakened from a category 4 to a category 2 hurricane, Governor John Edwards activated the state’s National Guard as widespread devastation is expected across the state. With this as the backdrop, Adventist Community Services (ACS) for the Southwest Union Conference has been in preparation mode.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America hears the voices of Black Americans and others, and calls upon our churches and members to serve as conduits of peace and hope to our Black brothers and sisters. We recognize their pain and the injustice they face, and strive to serve as their voices when they are silenced by those seeking to quiet them.

Family Ministries in the Southern-Asia Pacific Division recently adopted the North American Division Family Ministries' “Making Jesus My Best Friend” baptismal resource. After translating it into various languages in the SSD, the book is now being used in this sister division of the Adventist Church.

Since early spring when most churches closed because of coronavirus, all three of these magazines’ weekly issues have been available online for digital download—free. In addition, Guide is mailing two special print issues to conference children’s ministries leaders and local churches that don't already subscribe to Guide.

As of Friday, August 21, 2020, several Adventist entities and institutions in Northern California have been evacuated due to wildfires that began several days ago when an unusual heat wave and storms in the region produced more than 10,000 lightning strikes.
