On this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, as we reflect on what he stood for and fought for, may our actions bring to fruition daily that we are one family created in God’s image with inalienable rights of freedom and equality. May we use our voices, platforms, and our spheres of influence to lift the marginalized, the disenfranchised, and the least among us.

The three-day convention, starting with a reception and evening general session on Jan. 8 and running through the morning of Jan. 11, was bookended by the Adventist Radio Convention on Jan. 6-8, Adventist Women Leaders luncheon meeting on Jan. 11, and the NAD Children’s Ministries Retreat on Jan. 11-14. In addition to the “Replenish” juice bar, ministry exhibits booths, seminar tracks, and morning hikes, the notion of rest and replenishment spilled into the six general sessions of the AMC.

When a fellow passenger had a medical emergency on their flight, international rescue and relief senior Allen Stafford and junior Christian Thomas, students at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, sprung into action. 

During spring break of her freshman year at Pacific Union College, Mary and the Korean Club partnered with Maranatha Volunteers International to help build a church in Guamúchil, Sinaloa, in Northwestern Mexico. She said she had several “real conversations” with local residents about how wonderful it is to work for God and decided to switch her major from liberal studies to Spanish. This marked a turning point in her life.

Larry Pitcher, former president of Christian Record Services for the Blind (CRS), passed to his rest on the morning of Saturday, January 7, 2023, after several illnesses in 2022 and complications from heart disease. He was 76.

The Pacific Press Publishing Association, the printing and publishing house of the North American Division, produces several sharing magazines. These magazines are geared toward members being able to share them with their family members, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Vibrant Life is the first to be featured in our series.

In 2022, the North American Division website garnered close to 1.2 million unique page views. More than 270,000 unique page views were directed to NAD news articles.

Joelle Chinnock, whose father served as a dean on campus, was born and raised at Pacific Union College for the first 22 years of her life. “Growing up Adventist, I didn’t really know another option, and I didn’t understand the principles and beliefs for myself until later in life,” shared Chinnock, who moved to Paradise, California, about 20 years ago with her husband.

It’s been three and a half years since the Camp Fire devastated Paradise and several nearby communities in 2018. The fire, which has been attributed to two ignition points sparked by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) power lines, tore through the town in about four hours, destroying more than 18,000 structures (including about 14,000 residences) and killing 86 people.
