The breadth and diversity of the North American Division (NAD) ministries and institutions was on full display Monday, Oct. 29, as Seventh-day Adventist church leaders gathered for the fifth day of the 2023 NAD Year-End Meeting. Because these meetings are also publicly live-streamed, this was a chance for not just church leaders, but church members at home to see their tithe dollars at work.

The Oakwood Adventist Academy Mustangs boys varsity basketball team, after being denied a Sabbath accommodation in the finals for the 2021-2022 state championships, forfeited their semi-final game. Fast forward to the 2022-2023 season and the team is back in the tournament and able to play. Watch what happens at the March 2023 finals; and what lessons the team learned.

“God has people out there waiting for someone to knock at their door, and that someone is us,” said G. Alexander Bryant, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America on Sunday, Oct. 29, as the fourth day of business sessions of the 2023 NAD Year-End Meeting focused on evangelism, church membership, and care.

On Oct. 27, 2023, all nine unions and the Guam-Micronesia Mission of the North American Division shared at vespers as part of the division’s year-end meeting. Each talked about how the Lord is moving in their territories.

From the outset of the 2023 North American Division Year-End Meeting (NADYEM) on Thursday, October 26, it was clear it would not be business as usual. At times, the meeting was a reunion where friends could laugh while discussing agenda items. Other times, it was a sober call to harness our spiritual resources to minister in today’s volatile context; a message reinforced by special guest Rear Admiral (Ret.) Barry Black, United States Senate chaplain.

Where are we going as the North American Division (NAD) of the Seventh-day Adventist church; and how are our resources allocated in order to reach those goals were the broad focus areas of the second day of the 2023 NAD Year-End Meeting, themed “Together in Mission: I Will Go.” The day included the president's annual report, a tithe analysis report, and nominating committee report.

During the divine worship service on Sabbath, Oct. 28, 2023, G. Alexander Bryant, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America (NAD), addressed church leaders directly, saying they are called to to be relevant in our society as Jesus was in his ministry. “It was [God’s] intention for His church to be engaged in the world,” he said. Bryant, preaching a sermon entitled “In the World, But Not of the World,” declared to the delegates, official invitees, and spouses attending the 2023 NAD Year-End Meeting (YEM) Sabbath program that God also asks us to be united and respect each other’s differences.

The La Sierra University Board of Trustees on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, selected former higher education administrator and retired accrediting body leader Richard Osborn to serve as the university’s interim president while the board initiates a comprehensive search for a long-term president.

At the Women in Seventh-day Adventist History Conference, held October 12-14, 2023, on the Washington Adventist University campus, attendees learned of the hidden legacy of women serving alongside men to build the church. Hosted by the North American Division (NAD) Office of Archives, Statistics, and Research, headed by Michael Campbell, Ph.D., the event attracted roughly 150 attendees—men and women—from across North America, Europe, South America, and Africa.
