Sonscreen 2024: Bridging Faith, Tough Topics, and the Power of Film

Seven professional films and 40 student films were screened at the Sonscreen Film Festival held at the Loma Linda University Church Complex in California on April 4-6. Sonscreen also provided networking and professional development opportunities, including career advice from seasoned filmmakers and a new “LA luncheon with a professional.”

Southern Adventist University Only Designated Hispanic-Serving Institution in Tennessee

Southern Adventist University recently announced that it is the only institution in Tennessee designated as a Hispanic-serving institution. The designation comes from the federal government, which considers colleges and universities with Hispanic student enrollment of 25 percent or higher to be Hispanic-serving institutions.

More than 60,000 Youth to Set Up Camp in Gillette, Wyoming, for Week-Long Event Filled with Learning, Worship, and Community Outreach

More than 60,000 young people, hailing from more than 100 countries, will set up a tent and RV city August 5-11, 2024, as they attend the Ninth International Pathfinder Camporee at the Cam-Plex Facilities in Gillette, Wyoming. Themed “Believe the Promise,” the six-day camporee, held every five years, is sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America, headquartered in Maryland, and the Center for Youth Evangelism, located in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Day One of 2023 North American Division Year-End Meeting a Reunion and Call to Action

From the outset of the 2023 North American Division Year-End Meeting (NADYEM) on Thursday, October 26, it was clear it would not be business as usual. At times, the meeting was a reunion where friends could laugh while discussing agenda items. Other times, it was a sober call to harness our spiritual resources to minister in today’s volatile context; a message reinforced by special guest Rear Admiral (Ret.) Barry Black, United States Senate chaplain.

NAD President Tells Church Leaders to Stay Engaged In The World

During the divine worship service on Sabbath, Oct. 28, 2023, G. Alexander Bryant, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America (NAD), addressed church leaders directly, saying they are called to to be relevant in our society as Jesus was in his ministry. “It was [God’s] intention for His church to be engaged in the world,” he said. Bryant, preaching a sermon entitled “In the World, But Not of the World,” declared to the delegates, official invitees, and spouses attending the 2023 NAD Year-End Meeting (YEM) Sabbath program that God also asks us to be united and respect each other’s differences.

Groundbreaking for Collaborative Reserve Building in Alberta Advances Truth and Reconciliation

A groundbreaking held in Maskwacis, Alberta, Canada, on Oct. 20, 2023, for a multipurpose building to be constructed by the Alberta Conference heralded a dream come true for the Indigenous Adventists and community leaders who live there. Located on a rare parcel of private land in a reserve long-known in Indigenous circles for courage and innovation, the future center of influence, Mamawi Atosketan Centre (MAC), is being seen by the community and church officials at all levels as a clear path forward in working with Indigenous peoples.

Unveiling a Hidden Legacy

At the Women in Seventh-day Adventist History Conference, held October 12-14, 2023, on the Washington Adventist University campus, attendees learned of the hidden legacy of women serving alongside men to build the church. Hosted by the North American Division (NAD) Office of Archives, Statistics, and Research, headed by Michael Campbell, Ph.D., the event attracted roughly 150 attendees—men and women—from across North America, Europe, South America, and Africa.
