One of the most long-lasting initiatives in Adventist mission funding history is the Ingathering campaign, developed in 1908. In North America, it currently goes by the name Hope for Humanity.
Hope for Humanity has been part of the North American Division for many years and will continue to be part of its mission in the foreseeable future. However, the NAD is in a period of transition regarding Hope for Humanity, seeking the best way to continue this mission work. Since we have not yet determined what that looks like, we have not produced resources for local churches for their Ingathering campaigns in the past few years.
According to the NAD Working Policy, the conferences retain 50 percent of the funds from Ingathering and 50 percent is sent to the division. A portion of the funds sent to the division is used for domestic humanitarian projects, which are returned to conferences and churches in grant funds through Adventist Community Services, Another portion supports for international humanitarian projects, including literacy programs in other parts of the world.
Until the NAD has determined the way forward for Hope for Humanity, conferences and churches with questions or in need of developing resources for their Ingathering efforts are asked to contact Bonita J. Shields, NAD Associate Secretary.
If you have questions on this matter, please contact Dorothy Lall, administrative professional to Bonita J. Shields here.
