Bonita Joyner Shields has served the North American Division as both associate director and director of the stewardship department, vice president for ministries, and now as an Associate Secretary.
Prior to joining the NAD team, Pastor Shields served as a local church pastor, an editor of the Adventist Review and Adventist World magazines, assistant director of discipleship in the Sabbath school and personal ministries department of the General Conference, and as editor of several Sabbath school publications.
Pastor Shields received her undergraduate degree in theology from Columbia Union College (now known as Washington Adventist University) and her master's in pastoral ministry from Andrews University.
Pastor Shields brings experience in writing, teaching, and preaching in the local church and the world field. She enjoys reading, writing, and taking walks with her husband, Roy, of 35 years. She plays racquetball (when she can find a court and a willing partner), performs culinary experiments (some work and some, well, don’t), and, along with her sanguine husband, enjoys opening up their home to family and friends to celebrate life together.
