Paulo Macena
Paulo Macena was born and raised in Brazil. He has served the church for more than 25 years in Canada and the United States. Dr. Macena is the founder of the Adventist Leadership Institute and the Urban Life Center, a center of influence in Baltimore, Maryland. He also served as a Youth Ministries director in the New Jersey Conference for almost eight years.
In January 2022, he was appointed director of leadership for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. He is privileged to be the first leadership director to serve in this role. The NAD Leadership office exists to build and ensure the delivery of focused development content and curriculum for NAD leaders.
Macena graduated from UNASP-Campus 1 in Brazil and holds an M.A. in Youth Ministry and a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership, both from Andrews University. He is also an independent certified coach, teacher, trainer, and speaker with the John Maxwell Team. He is the author of The Missing Power and the Mentorship Guide.
He is married to Cristina Macena, who is the manager of the Urban Life Center, which is a center of influence in downtown Baltimore. The couple have two beautiful daughters, Luisa and Paula.
Macena loves playing soccer, walking on the beach, and drinking juice mixed with pineapple and orange. His favorite leadership quote is from Abraham Lincoln: “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” Preparation is vital to leading an ever-changing world and a diverse culture.
Macena’s mission statement is “To lead for eternity.”
