Then. Now. Forever.

Then, Message was The Gospel Herald, a little paper produced first by James Edson White in 1898 on a steamboat called The Morning Star. His idea was to minister to that first generation of emancipated persons in need of education, vocation, and spiritual uplifting. The little paper has turned into Message, an award winning, bi-monthly, 32-page religious journal that features uplifting interviews, thoughtful analysis of current events and the prophetic voice of spiritual leaders.

With its committed readership of 40,000 subscribers, Message is often “gifted” to friends and loved ones. It is given away during large commemorations such as the Inauguration of President Barack Obama and the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington.

Now, Message reaches more readers than ever from its enhanced digital platforms–messagemagazine.com, and sharemessage.org. Loyal readers follow our Facebook page for daily devotionals and Bible readers participate in the first ever interactive Bible study “The Experience,” by posting their comments with the #messagemagazine.

Site of Civil Rights Breakthrough Inspires North American Division Writing Conference Attendees to Effect Change

On January 9 and 10, 2023, the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (NAD) held its first counternarrative writing conference. The unique conference took place during the NAD’s Adventist Ministries Convention. Held at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro, North Carolina, it championed sharing narratives from the perspective of historically marginalized groups, i.e., counternarratives.

NAD Distributes 10,000 Pounds of Fresh Produce in Record Time During Thanksgiving Giveaway

On Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s North American Division (NAD) headquarters in Columbia, MD, gave away 10,000 pounds of fresh produce at their Thanksgiving fresh produce giveaway. Despite the brisk weather, a long lineup of visitors was waiting outside the NAD building 30 minutes before the event’s scheduled 10 a.m. start.

On October 8, 2022, Carmela Monk Crawford, J.D., Message Magazine editor and Oakwood University alumna, was presented the Association of Adventist Women’s Woman of the Year Award for outstanding achievement at their 40th annual awards banquet in Loma Linda, California.

Desperate Give, and the Real Take

Angel, with the blue eyes, lurked on the outskirts of our Chester, Pennsylvania, Message Community Infusion in July 2021. I don’t blame him for being wary of our enthusiastic bunch. How desperate do you have to be to clean up an empty city park, trim the trees, set up the praise team and band, bring in free food and give away free COVID shots — all so we can attract a potential contact who needs Jesus?
