======================================================= Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, December 23, 2,000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: November 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THE DAY WE HAVE WAITED FOR ======================================================= Lesson Aim: Jesus has a crown waiting for me in heaven. Memory Verse: "This is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us." Isa. 25:9, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - BULLS EYE Materials needed: Foam dart board game Small slips of paper WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On the small slips of paper write the following: 5 pts. - Birthdays and parties 10 pts. - Christmas and other holidays 20 pts. - Special vacation with family 50 pts. - Second coming of Jesus Place the dart board on the wall where it can be used. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that there are many events we look forward to. Birthdays, holidays, trips, visits with relatives, etc. Give the children turns at the dart board. When they get a dart at a certain point level, give them a paper listing an event to look forward to. (Consult above; you may have to change your point value to match your dart game.) When they land on the bull's eye in the middle, they get the second coming paper. The purpose of the activity is to help them understand that while all the events are important and exciting none can match the second coming of Jesus. That's the day we've all waited for. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE LESSON SLIDES Materials needed: Large cardboard box Scissors Razor blade or Exacto knife Crayons or markers Small slips of paper Poster board (1 sheet for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out the back of the box. Cut a window in the front leaving no more than 2" around the peripheral to form a frame. Cut the poster boards to fit inside the box facing out the front frame. On small slips of paper print the following sentences, one sentence to a slip. 1. John writes the book of Revelation. 2. Those who follow Satan will try to hurt those who love God. 3. Those who love God will be given special help from Heaven. 4. A small black cloud will appear in the sky then get bigger and bigger. 5. Satan's people will try to hide from Jesus, but Jesus' people will be happy and joyful. 6. Dead people will come out of their graves to meet Jesus. 7. We will all travel with Jesus back to Heaven. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Just like John saw pictures of what the last days and the Second Coming would be like, let's make slides and show them on our homemade projector of what we think these events will be like. Have the students draw a slip of paper from your hand. Give them a sheet of poster board to illustrate what is on their slip of paper. Instruct them to draw on the whole poster board. (The poster boards are the slides that fit into the projector box). When the children are all finished making the "slides", go through the Bible story. As you talk about what they have illustrated have them slip into the box from the back and display their "slide". GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE CODE Materials needed: Several large boxes (big enough for two Kindergarten children to get inside and be able to read the sides.) Markers Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Turn each box upside down. Crawl inside. In large letters, write the first four words of the memory verse in scrambled fashion on one wall of the box. On a second wall write the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth word scrambled. Write the last four words of the verse on the third wall and the text on the fourth wall. Use the NIV version of the Bible. Explain to the children that they are going to pretend they are in prison like John may have been or like other Christians who have been persecuted for loving Jesus. The only way to get out is to crack the code on the prison walls. Each wall has four of the memory verse words written on them. If they figure out how to put the words in order on each wall, they will know the secret to getting out of prison. (You can operate several prisons at once depending on the number of boxes you get and the number of children in the group.) Make sure the children inside the prison whisper the verse to you, so it's not ruined for the other children. Use your Bibles at the end of the activity to reinforce where the verse is found and if it has been said correctly. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - SECOND COMING CROWNS Materials needed: One gold or yellow paper crown for each child Sequins or jewels Gold glitter pens WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make each child a paper crown. Leave the back unattached until you can properly fit the crown around the child's head. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children decorate their crown with sequins and jewels. On the front of the crown have them write, JESUS IS COMING with the gold glitter pen.
