GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - BLUE RIBBON HONORS Materials needed: Blue construction paper or shiny blue wrapping paper Scissors Black marking pen WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut enough blue ribbons out for each child to have one and print the word HONOR in the circle on each one. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Ask the children to think of ways they can show respect and honor God's house and His name. As they each think of a way praise them and hand them a Blue Ribbon. "In our story today someone forgot to show respect and honor and a lot of people were sad." GO STRAIGHT INTO THE LESSON. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - STORY PICTURE PUZZLE Materials needed: Enough blank puzzles for each child to have a piece of the puzzle. Most have 8 pieces. Crayons or markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) You can buy blank puzzles at any WalMart or craft store, or you can cut your own puzzles from a piece of posterboard. Number the pieces on the back in order from left to right, top to bottom, 1-8. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a piece of the puzzle. Explain that they are going to draw a little picture of the story on their piece of puzzle. The scenes below correspond with the numbered puzzle pieces. 1. Hophni and Phinehas carrying the ark into battle. 2. Ark was captured and Eli's son's killed by Philistines. 3. Eli fell and broke his neck from the sad news. 4. The Philistines put the ark in their temple of their god, Dagon. 5. The second time, they found Dagon broken into pieces in the morning. 6. People began to get sick. 7. Cows taking the ark and leaving their calves. 8. Special service and dedication for Eleazor. After each child completes his drawing, assemble the puzzle together and review the story.
