===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, November 27, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (Author: Lisa Seeders) Date: November 15, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS USES A BOY'S LUNCH ==================================================================== =Lesson Aim: God uses the gifts I give Him to help others. He also gives back to me more than I ever give away. Memory Verse: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down,...and running over." Luke 6:38, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - BREAKFAST BASKET Materials needed: Small bunch of grapes Banana Fish crackers Mini-loaf bread or sweet bread Small package of crackers Table knife Small paper plates Basket Ziplock baggies WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) The materials listed above are enough for 5 children. Several small groups can be doing the activity simultaneously if necessary, but additional supplies for each group will need to be brought. Place all the food into the basket and cover it over. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that you have brought your breakfast with you this morning. It is in the basket. As you begin to take items out of the basket, ask them if they had breakfast that morning. Explain that you would like to share some of your breakfast with them. What would be the best way to do that? (Divide everything up evenly.) Give each child one of the food items to distribute evenly among the group. (Provide baggies for children who want to take it home for later.) In our story today only one little boy had food to eat at lunch time. Jesus did something special with his lunch so that everyone could receive a blessing. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - RUNNING OVER BLESSINGS Materials needed: Four glasses of milk Straws (one for each child) Bibles Pens Paper WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Put milk in the four glasses and set them about two feet apart on a table. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children look up the memory verse in their Bibles. Give them each a sheet of white paper. Ask them to draw a large glass tumbler on their paper. Pretend it is full of milk. What happens when you blow with a straw into a glass of milk. (Bubbles come cascading up and over the glass) Have the children draw bubbles coming up the glass, then four large ones tumbling down the glass. In the first bubble that comes out of the glass they print the words, "Give and it will be given to you." In the second bubble that comes out they print the words, "A good measure pressed down." In the third bubble they print the words, "and running over." In the fourth bubble they print the text, Luke 6:38. After learning the memory verse bubble by bubble in four sections, have the children line up in a vertical line behind the first glass of milk. Give each child a straw. The first child in line says the first portion of memory verse that was written in the first bubble, then blows some bubbles into the glass of milk. He then moves quickly to the second glass, says the portion of verse that was written in the second bubble and blows bubbles into the second glass of milk. He continues in this same manner until he gets to the end of the line. As soon as he is finished the second child begins at the first glass. Encourage the children to move along as quickly as they can, so the bubbles don't have a chance to recede but just keep tumbling out of the glass. Continue the activity until all the children in line have had a turn. At the end of the activity talk about how numerous the blessings are when we freely give to others. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - GIFTS FOR JESUS TO MULTIPLY Materials needed: Jewelry-size boxes (one for each child) Wrapping paper Scissors Tape Christmas gift tags Pens WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a jewelry-size box with lid and two pieces of wrapping paper, cut to fit the bottom and the top. (The bottom and the top will be wrapped separately, so the lid can be removed.) After they have wrapped their gift box and lid, have them set it aside. Remind the children that Jesus used what the little boy had to bless others. He did not ask the little boy to give things he did not have like money or talents. There are things Primary children have that Jesus can use to bless others if we are willing to share with Him. Give each child several Christmas gift tags. On the tags instruct them to write some things they have that they would be willing to share with Jesus for His use. (They don't need to be too specific. For example: Toys might be something written on a tag instead of specific names of toys.) Would they really be willing to give something cherished away to another child who needed or wanted it? Some ideas of things they can be encouraged to think about are: Toys, Clothes, Time, Food, Ability to do a certain subject in school well, Parents love and attention with another child who needs it, etc. Have the children stick the gift tags inside the wrapped box. Encourage them to take the box home and remember to read what's on the name tags this week. Look for ways to actually be able to share what it says on the tag with someone else. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - FOOD BOX Materials needed: Large box Markers Stencils (lettering and shapes) Construction paper Old greeting cards Scissors Glue WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Tell the children that over the next month they will be collecting food items and bringing them in to place in a box for a needy family. (Plan to take the box to the family right before Christmas) Every week they need to be collecting food and bringing it to Sabbath school. (Only-non-perishable items). Larger Sabbath schools will make more than one box. Assign each child a side of the box to decorate using the materials listed above or others of your choosing.
