Memory Verse: "I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation." 2 Cor. 6:2, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - TIME TELLERS Materials needed: Paper plates (one for each child) Markers Brass fasteners (one for each child) 1 sheet of poster board Scissors Stickers (food, transportation, child sleeping or angels, reward words like A+ or Good job) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Punch a small hole through the center of each paper plate. Cut out a minute and hour hand arrow for each child from the poster board. Punch a small hole at the end of each hour and minute hand arrow. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Each child will make a clock. 1. Draw numbers like on a clock face onto the paper plate. 2. Stick the brass fastener through the hour and minute hand arrows and then through the hole in the center of the paper plate. (This makes the hands on the clock) 3. Discuss the following questions having the children add stickers as appropriate to the clock face and moving the hands of the clock to show their own personal answer. What time do you wake up in the morning? What time do you go to bed at night? What time do you eat lunch during the day? What time do you go to school? What time do you do your homework? What time do you spend with Jesus? In our Bible story today we'll hear more about the right time to choose Jesus as your friend. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - STORY MATCH-UP Materials needed: 1 sheet of poster board Scissors 12 paper plates Black permanent marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make a large minute hand and hour hand arrow from the sheet of poster board. On the 12 paper plates write the following: *The Christians did not want Paul to go to Jerusalem because They knew he would be arrested and sentenced to death *The Jewish Christians were angry at Paul because They thought he was disobeying Moses' laws *Paul went to the temple to worship but Church members dragged him out of the temple and beat him *The captain of the Roman army picked him up and carried him to safety To save Paul from the angry crowd *That night Paul was sad and discouraged so Jesus came to Paul in a vision and comforted him *Paul witnessed to Governor Felix and his wife about Jesus but Felix did not want to make the choice to follow Jesus at this time Mix the plates up and arrange them on the floor so they are in a circular clock pattern. Place the minute and hour hand arrows on the floor in the middle. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children take turns choosing a plate to point the hour hand arrow to. (Show them how to choose a plate beginning with a *.) Read the answer choices to them. They put the minute hand arrow on the plate of their choice. (You can choose to do this as a group activity on the floor or as an individual activity using the clock plates already made; just write the sentences on before the previous activity) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE GO-ROUND Materials needed: Poster board Scissors Timer (stove-type that measures seconds) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) From the poster board cut out the numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9. Place them on the floor in a clock pattern. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the students look up the memory verse in their Bibles. Repeat it several times together. Divide the verse up into 4 sections. Set the timer for 1 minute. Have a student start at the 12 on the floor clock and say, "I tell you". Move immediately to the 3 and say, "now is the time of God's favor". Move immediately to the 6 and say, "now is the day of salvation". Move immediately to the 9 and say, 2 Corinthians 6:2. Each child tries this. Then set the timer for 45 seconds, then 30 seconds.
