===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, November 21, 1998 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Cyndi Long) Date: November 1, 1998 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, GOD SPEAKS TO SAMUEL ===================================================================== Lesson Aim: Even though I am young, I can be God's messenger. Memory Verse: "The Lord said to me, 'Do not say, "I am only a child." You must go to everyone I send you and say whatever I command you.'" Jeremiah 1:7, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - NAME GAME Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Instruct the children to close their eyes tightly and not to peek. Tell them that they are to listen carefully for their name to be called, and when it is they are to answer, "Here I am." Call the children's names out quietly and randomly. Let each one answer before calling another. In our story today a little boy heard someone calling out his name in the dark. Do you know who it was? GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE MATCH-UP Materials needed: (15) 3 x 5 cards WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Draw a line on each 3 X 5 card dividing it in half. Print the following words one on each half of the 3 X 5 cards as shown below. The cards are now referred to as dominos. This game is ideally played with 5 students. If you have more, divide your class into groups of 5 and give each group a set of 15. The/Lord said/to me/Do not/say I/am only/a child./You must/go to/everyone I/send you/to and/say whatever/I command/you Jer./1:7, NIV. Shuffle the dominos and give each child three. Whoever has the domino with the first word lays it down. The play continues to the left. If a player cannot place the correct domino down that would continue the verse, he may say pass. The whole team wins if the dominos are laid in order so the verse can be repeated correctly. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - PROGRESSIVE STORY Materials needed: Four bright primary color foam sheets (Available in craft stores) Scissors or razor knife WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut two connecting large block letters out of each sheet. ME from one, SS from the second, EN from the third, GER from the last. Print with permanent fine line marker on the back of the letters the parts of the story listed below. Place the letters in four visible spots around your room. ME- print the first 3 paragraphs of the lesson story SS- print the next 12 paragraphs of the lesson story, ending with "Speak, Lord. Your...." EN- print the next 4 paragraphs of the story GER- print the last 4 paragraphs of the story WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that they will be moving around the room to hear the story today. Move to the first set of letters and choose a child to bring it to you. Read the story to them from the back of the letters. Then hand the letters back to the child. Move to the next spot and choose a new child to bring the letters. Read the story once again and then hand the letters back to that child. Continue until you have finished the story and are back in your seats. Now ask for the children with the letters to bring them up and try to figure out the word that is being spelled out. Tell them that the letters go in the order that they heard the story. Say, "What does this spell? Messenger, that's right. Samuel was God's messenger to Eli. Another name for the word messenger is prophet. Was Samuel too young to be a messenger for God? Can you be a messenger too?" ACTING ON SCRIPTURE: MESSAGES FROM GOD Materials needed: Message pads, at least four or five sheet per child Pencils WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child four or five sheets of message papers and a pencil. "Even though you are very young Jesus wants you to listen to Him and be a messenger for Him. Can you think of messages that Jesus wants you to tell others? Let's take some messages for Jesus this morning." Encourage the children to think of different messages that God wants us to share with others. Talk with them about ways they can do that. Some examples of messages are below. Jesus died for our sins so that we can be with Him. The dead just go to sleep until Jesus comes back. Jesus wants to come and take us to heaven. God wants us to take care of our bodies. The Sabbath is God's holy day.
