===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, November 20, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: November 1, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, TWO SPECIAL MIRACLES ==================================================================== =Lesson Aim: I can believe that Jesus will help me in the best way and at the right time. Memory Verse: "Your faith has healed you." Matt. 9:22, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - MEDICATION IDENTIFICATION Materials needed: Cookie sheet or tray Towel 10 - 12 different types of medications and ointments such as bottle of cough syrup, bottle of headache pills, tube of arthritis rub medication etc. Write-on/wipe-off board OR newsprint pad OR blackboard Medium to write on whichever board you chose Watch with a second hand OR some type of stop watch WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Arrange the medications and ointments on the tray and cover with a towel. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that you have on your tray 10 - 12 different items people sometimes use to treat their illnesses or injuries. Place the tray where all the children can view it and give them 15 seconds on the clock to do so. Then cover the tray back over with the towel. Ask the group to identify as many of the medications or ointments as they can. Write their answers on the board. See how many of the 10 - 12 items can be recalled. Uncover the tray and compare the answers with what is actually on the tray. In our Bible story today, Jesus helped several people for whom medications and doctor's help hadn't done anything. These people needed a special miracle. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - NOTEWORTHY NEWS Materials needed: Section of a newspaper OR a newspaper flyer, the size of the section depends on your group size. One plain white sheet of 8 « X 11 paper for each child Pencils Black markers Scotch tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On the top of the sheets of plain white paper print the following captions, one caption to a page. 1. Great Miracle Healer Coming To Capernaum 2. Sought- after Physician Expected to Be At Jairus's House 3. Spectacular Cure of a Blood Disease 4. Supernatural Sighting at Jairus's House 5. Future Predictions Surround the WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: After reviewing the story with the children, divide the children into small groups, no more than 2-3 to a group. Give each group one of the white papers with a caption written on it. Explain to the children that they are reporters living back when Jesus walked on this earth. They have been given the assignment of writing a brief description of what happened and drawing a picture about it under their caption. The description and picture should take up the whole page. When they are finished, they tape their page inside the real section of the newspaper. (Large Sabbath schools may have more than one reporter working on the same assignment, coming at it from a different perspective.) Make sure the real newspaper is covered with the "special editions" of Bible Times News. The black markers are used to trace over the captions. Have the children help you decide on a name for the Newspaper. Cover the name of the original with the new name. Read the paper together at the conclusion. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE GOLF Materials needed: Five styrofoam cups Scissors Masking Tape Ping Pong Balls Permanent markers One paint stick for each child (The wide kind used for stirring paint) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Plan to conduct this activity on a carpeted area of floor. Print one word of the memory verse on each styrofoam cup. Print it on the side. Cut the bottom out of each cup. Tape each cup in various spots on the carpeted area. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children look up the memory verse in their Bibles. Read and repeat it together. Give each child a paint stick and have them copy the verse onto it with a permanent marker, including the text. Each child places their ping pong ball three feet from the cup that has the first word of the memory verse on it. The first child uses his paint stick to tap the ball through the cup. (Similar to golfing). When it rolls out the other side their turn is over and the next child goes. Keep taking turns until everyone is through the first cup. Now take turns directing the balls to the next cup. Continue in this same manner until each child has successfully maneuvered his ball through all five cups. There is no score kept. Whoever keeps their faith all the way through the memory verse course is a winner. Sometimes we have to go through experiences that test whether or not we really have faith in God. God always rewards our faith in the best way and at the right time. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - JESUS' BUSINESS CARDS Materials needed: 3 X 5 cards (Enough for each child to have 6) Clear contact paper Scissors Markers Business card sample WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the 3 X 5 cards in half. Cut the contact paper in squares that are just a little bigger than the 3 X 5 halves. On each 3 X 5 card print the following words or type them on the computer and xerox them so each child has six copies. God is in the business of giving grace. He knows what you need and when you need it. In His grace He will provide for you. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Show the children what a business card looks like. Ask them why people give out their business card. (So others will know what services they provide) If God had a business card maybe it would look something like this. (Show the words that will go on their 3 X 5 cards.) Read and discuss what it means together. Have each child glue the words to their 3 X 5 cards, then cover the card with two pieces of contact paper. Trim the edges. Encourage the children to share them with others this week. Draw crosses on the cards if desired.
