Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, November 13, 1999 From: NAD Children’s Ministries (Author: Cyndi Long) Date: September 2, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THE WIND OBEYS JESUS Lesson Aim: Jesus can help me in trouble, just like He helped the disciples in the storm. Memory Verse: “Even the winds and the waves obey Him!” Matthew 8:27. NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION-Night Frights Materials needed: Doll Dolls bed WHAT THE TEACHER DOES (To prepare ahead): Nothing. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Tell them that they are to pretend for this little child. They are to pretend he/she is asleep in their bed. And something scares them awake. What is it that they are afraid of? Try to keep the suggestions as realistic as possible. Throw in the bad thunderstorm idea at the end if it doesn’t come up. Give each child that wants to, a turn. In our Bible story today a bad storm frightens some big grown up men. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE-Thunderstorm Noises Materials needed: Cookie sheets Wooden spoons Pots and pans Two spray bottles Fan WHAT THE TEACHER DOES (To prepare ahead): Nothing. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a pan or cookie sheet. The ones with cookie sheets should shake them to make a thunder noise. The ones with pans can beat on them to make other thunder noise. Two children can work the spray bottle. One can work the fan and one can work the lights. Rain, wind and lighting. Now tell the story with the added sound effects during the storm part of the story. Remind them to be silent when Jesus calms the storm. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -Memory Verse Wave Materials needed: None. WHAT THE TEACHER DOES (To prepare ahead): Nothing. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Seat the children in a circle. They are to stand up and put their arms up and down and sit down in a wave pattern, one after another. While they are doing this they will be saying a word of the memory verse each except for “obey” which will be said by two children. “O” “bey”. See how quickly they can go down the line standing, saying their word, putting their arms up and down at the same time and sitting back down. Continue around the circle until the verse is finished doubling back over for fewer than 10 children. Do the verse twice together for more than 10 children. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE-Jesus Lifesavers Materials needed: White play dough Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES (To prepare ahead): Make the dough into circles and bake hard. One per child. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a hard play dough circle. Talk to them about how Jesus can help them when they are in trouble or scared. These are little paper weight reminders to help them remember Jesus wants to help them always. Give them markers to write the words “Jesus is my life saver and help” and to decorate.
