===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, October 31, 1998 From: NAD Children's Ministries (Author: Cyndi Long) Date: September 15, 1998 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, SO STRONG AND SO WEAK Lesson Aim: I want to choose friends who will help me be like Jesus. Memory Verse: " Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.... But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15, NIV. GETTING THEIR ATTENTION- BLIND MAN'S WALK Materials needed: Rope, long enough to tie to several chairs and to reach around the room. Objects for the children to feel and guess, can be things already in the classroom Blind folds for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Tie the rope in a circular direction around the room making sure there is no objects for the children to fall over. Wait and place the items they will be guessing until after you have blindfolded them. If you need to place them ahead of time, they can be covered over. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Tell the students that you will be leading them on a blind walk. They will be coming to objects that they must feel and guess. Ask them to keep their guess quiet until every one has had an opportunity to feel the object. Then you will call for answers. Blind fold them all and put them in a line holding onto the rope. Lead them around to the objects one by one. The more students, the fewer objects to guess due to the time factor. Once they are back in their seats ask them how they felt when they couldn't see where they were going. How do they think a blind person feels? Some might think it was fun but remind them that they knew they would see again once the blindfold was taken off. In our story today we learn about a man who became blind later in his life. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE- BIBLE STORY FILM Materials needed: Shoe boxes, One per child if you have a small group, or one per 3-5 children if you have a larger group Pencils Crayons and markers Wrapping paper Glue Stickers Poster board, cut 2 sqares 2" wide and 1/4 " less than the length of each shoe box, and a 4 3/4 " circle for each group or child Scissors Hole punch WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the posterboard circles and glue 8 one inch. squares around the outer edge of the circle. Number the squares from one to eight so the children will know where to begin. Go over the story several times and decide which eight parts you want the children to illustrate. Ex. The stranger came to Manoah's wife and told her she would soon have a baby. Draw a picture of the stranger and her talking. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child or group a shoe box and supplies. Go over the Bible story with them first and then explain how they will make their film. First cover the sides of the shoe box with the wrapping paper. Cut a 1/8 x 1" slit down the center of both long sides of the shoe box to cradle the pencil to turn the film reel. Glue the 2 squares on each side of the slit one inch down from the top of the box. One inch below the slit, cut a 1 « inch square for the screen. Draw the Bible story in the picture frames. Punch a hole in the center of the film reel and push a pencil through it. Place the pencil in the cradle, line up the title frame, and turn the pencil to show the film. The children can later make additional reels for their film box and these can be stored right in the box. Taken with permission from Favorite Bible Heroes, Rainbow Books. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE- WALL POSTER Materials needed: Small posterboard for each child Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the students look up the memory verse in their Bibles and read. Begin printing the memory verse on the posterboard, placing the child's name in place of "me" . The older Primaries can print all or most, but the younger students will need to put in their name and maybe one or two other words. Allow them time to decorate it with markers. Tell them this is for them to take home and hang on their wall as a reminder of who they choose to serve. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE- FRIENDSHIP BEARS Materials needed: Small stuffed bear or other cuddly animal, one per child Small Blank Thank-you card, one per child Pencils Ribbon, approx. 6" long WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead): There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a bear and tell them they will be giving their bear to a very special friend who has helped them to be like Jesus. If they are at a loss for knowing who, suggest a teacher, mom or dad or other relative. They should print the following sentence with or without help. "Thank you for being a friend that helps me to be like Jesus." Add hearts or small decorations inside if you wish. Encourage them to give away their bears right away. Note: Next weeks helps include the Youth/Earliteen doing the drama for the lesson.. You may wish to ask them a week in advance, so they have a little more time to prepare.
