======================================================= Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, September 30, 2,000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: July 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, ANGEL FRIENDS ======================================================= Lesson Aim: God's angels are my special friends. They do whatever God wants them to do for me. Memory Verse: "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" Hebrews 1:14, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - WALKIE TALKIE MESSENGERS Materials needed: 2 Walkie Talkies Slips of paper (large enough to write a short message on) A treat for the class to share WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Print the following messages on slips of paper, one message to a slip. 1. In order to crack the secret code you must listen to each message and do exactly what it says. 2. Get a piece of paper and a marker from the teacher. 3. Print the alphabet letter that comes after S on the paper. 4. Right after the letter you just printed, print the letter that comes before S on the paper. 5. Right after the letter you just printed, print the letter that is the fifth one in the alphabet. 6. Right after the letter you just printed, print the letter that is at the opposite end of Z in the alphabet. 7. Right after the letter you just printed, print the letter again that you printed first on the paper. 8. Ask your teacher if you have cracked the code. If so, she may give you a reward. Roll up these slips of paper and be sure to number them accordingly on the outside. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give a rolled up slip of paper to each child. If your class is smaller, give more than one slip to a child. If your class is larger, make up more directions to include with those already given. Send the child with slip of paper #1 out of the room, but within walkie talkie distance. Keep the other walkie talkie in the classroom. Sit the remaining children in a circle. Tell the child you have sent from the room, to read the message back over the walkie talkie. The class listens to the message and tells the messenger whether or not they have received it. Then they follow through and do what it says. Send child with slip of paper #2 out of the room. Child #1 comes back in and participates with the rest of the group. Keep sending individual children from the room to transmit their message back to the rest of the group. YOU WILL NEED AN ADULT OR OLDER CHILD WHO READS WELL WITH THE CHILD OUTSIDE THE ROOM TO ASSIST THEM WITH WORDS. When the activity is completed, the word, TREAT should be discovered on the paper. Reward the children with some type of treat. In our Bible story today we learn about the special messengers that God uses and some of the messages they delivered to people. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - ANGEL ASSIGNMENTS Materials needed: Sidewalk chalk and parking area to work in OR Small area of blackboard for each child and chalk Slips of paper with angel assignments written on them WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Write the following assignments on slips of paper, one assignment to a slip. 1. Draw an angel closing the lion's mouths so they wouldn't hurt Daniel. 2. Draw an angel releasing Peter from prison and leading him out. 3. Draw an angel standing between Jesus and the angry crowd who wanted to shove him over the cliff. 4. Draw Jacob's dream which showed angels moving up and down a ladder stretched from Heaven to earth. 5. Draw an angel telling Mary she will become pregnant with a special baby. 6. Draw an angel telling Joseph to take Mary and Jesus away to Egypt. 7. Draw a group of angels singing to a shepherd. 8. Draw an angel pulling Lot toward the mountains away from Sodom. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have each child or pair of children draw an assignment from you. They illustrate it with chalk. When everyone is done, go around as a group and look and discuss each one. This covers most of the lesson material. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - TAPE RECORDED MESSAGES Materials needed: Cassette recorder and blank cassette Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the students locate the memory verse in their Bibles. Repeat it several times together. Set the tape recorder up outside of the classroom. (Have another adult or teen present to oversee them) Tell the children they are to take turns speaking the memory verse into the recorder. They are not to identify who they are, but they can say anything they want to introduce or close their message. (For example: This message is brought to you by a secret pal. "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" Heb. 1:14. Hope you discover who I am.) They can also falsify their voice to keep you from guessing who they are. When all the children have recorded their memory verse and message to you, they return to the classroom. You play the messages back and try to identify who is speaking the message. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - ANGEL REMINDERS Materials needed: White cardstock (1 sheet) Pencil (sharpened) Angel wing pattern Fiber-fill Gold glitter Spray adhesive or spray glue Sugar cones (one per child; Buy a few extra for breakage) Styrofoam balls (one medium size one for each child) Wiggly eyes Elmer's glue WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out a pair of angel wings for each child from the white cardstock paper. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children follow the steps below to make an angel reminder: 1. Using the pencil bore a hole mid-way into the Styrofoam ball. Push the ball onto the tip of a sugar cone. 2. Glue the wiggly eyes onto the Styrofoam ball. 3. Glue the wings onto the back of the cone behind and below the Styrofoam ball head. 4. Spray adhesive around the wings, cone and head. Sprinkle gold glitter on the adhesive. Lay fiber-fill around the head. 5.
