======================================================= Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, September 2, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: August 1, 1997 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, GOOD NEWS IN A CHARIOT ======================================================= Lesson Aim: The Holy Spirit will help me know how to witness about Jesus. Memory Verse: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8 NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION MEETING IMPORTANT PEOPLE [Materials needed: Card stock people figures, 1 for each child (plain, ready to be dressed or decorated; make them asexual so the children can choose to make them male or female as they decorate them.); colors, scraps of material; ribbons; small buttons; glue; scissors] [Directions: Ask the children to tell you the names of some important people they would like to meet. Then have them choose one whom they would like to meet the most and make their blank figure look like that person using the materials at hand. Discuss the following questions when they are through and ready to display their figures. 1. Why would you like to meet someone important? 2. What would you say if you could meet them? 3. Do you think you could talk about Jesus with that person if they asked you a question about Him? In our story today one of Jesus' followers has the opportunity to meet an important man from Ethiopia. He shares the good news about Jesus with him. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE SHADOW BOXES [Materials needed: One shoe box or other small box of similar size for each child; scraps of material; clay or play-doh; construction paper; pipe cleaners; small rocks; colored sand; glue] NOTE: Not all of the above materials are essential to the project and substitutions may be made according to what is available to you. [Directions: Each child will creatively and imaginatively create the scene of the Ethiopian being baptized as shown in the quarterly in a 3-dimensional mural in a box. Spread the children out giving each an adequate work area and supplies within easy reach. Give suggestions as needed, but encourage their creativity. Allow at least 30 minutes for this activity. The following are some suggestions for the mural: Pipe cleaner and construction paper trees, blue colored sand for water, clay or play-doh people dressed in scraps, rocks around the water's edge etc. WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE GAME [Materials needed: 5 balloons; yarn or masking tape to measure a boundary line; Bibles] [Directions: On balloon number one write the word WHO in large letters with black permanent marker. On balloon number two write the word WHAT in large letters. On balloon number three write the word WHEN. On balloon number four write the word WHERE and on balloon number five write the word WHY. Mark a boundary line in the middle of the floor approximately 8 feet in length. Divide the children into two groups. Have the children look up the memory verse in their Bibles. (The versions must all match) They are to find the answers to the following questions from their verse: 1. WHO is the verse speaking to? (You, referring to the disciples) 2. WHAT would they receive? (Power) 3. WHEN would they receive it? (When the Holy Spirit came) 4. WHY would they receive this power? (So they could be witnesses) 5. WHERE would they be witnesses? (In Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.) Group one children stand on one side of the boundary and group two stand on the other side. Group one bats the WHO balloon over to someone on group two's side and says, "Who". Someone on group two bats it back and answers with the memory verse word, "You". Group one bats the balloon that says, WHAT over to group two, and someone bats it back answering, "will receive power". Group one bats the WHEN balloon over and group two bats it back answering, "when the Holy Spirit comes on you". Continue playing until all balloons have been used. To make the game more challenging, have all balloons going over one right after the other and children sending them back as quickly as possible always answering with the correct memory verse words.] ACTING ON SCRIPTURE WITNESS ACROSTIC [Materials needed: Write on/wipe off board and markers OR chalk board and chalk OR poster board and markers.] [Directions: Print the word WITNESS in large capital letters vertically down the board. Ask the children to think of as many words as possible that describe a witness for Jesus. They must begin with the letters from the word, witness. Give them some examples to get them started. Older Primaries may want to print their own, while younger Primaries may want you to do the printing.] W - willing, watches for chance to witness, I - inspired by God, T - truthful, thoughtful N - nervous, E - eager, earnest, excited, enthusiastic S - sharing, sure S - spirit-filled OPTION - Many of these words are concepts that Primaries may not know. Try acting out some of them to give them clues. Example - Act nervous, act out a sharing situation, look up to God and point to the Bible for inspired.
