WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Once you have told the lesson story, explain to the children that they will be playing a game similar to Jeopardy. You should have all the question cards in your hand in numerical order. Show them the cards on the board and explain that you will turn each card over in order and if they know the "question" answer they will raise their hand. Give them both cards if they are correct. There should be no winners or losers in this game only fun with the facts of the story. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - FELT SANDWICHES Materials needed: 3 sheets of tan felt 1 sheet of dark brown felt 2 sheets of yellow felt 2 sheets of red felt 2 sheets of green felt 1 sheet of purple felt 2 sheets of white felt (5) 3 x 5 cards Adhesive velcro, 11 circles of scratchy side only, not fuzzy side Glue Magnetic tape (opt) Write/on wipe/off board WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) These are fun to make, although they take a little time, but you will be able to save them and use them again and again. Cut out 44 slices of bread from the tan felt approx. 1" wide and 1 1/2" long. Cut out 4 dk. brown irregular ovals to look like peanut butter, slightly smaller than the bread slices. Cut 4 purple irregular ovals to look like jelly, slightly smaller than the bread slices. Cut 7 irregular rectangular shapes out of the white, slightly smaller than the bread slices. Cut 4 rectangles with round holes in them from the yellow, to look like swiss cheese, slightly smaller than the bread slices. Cut little mini squares from the remaining yellow. Cut 7 round circles from the red slightly smaller than the bread and cut triangle wedges radiating inside the circles, like spokes on a wheel, for the tomato slices. Cut 7 irregular shapes from the green, smaller than the bread for the lettuce. Now play your bread out ready, two slices for each sandwich. You will be making 4 peanut butter and jelly, 7 egg salad, 4 cheese, and 7 lettuce and tomato. With the hot glue place a dot on the inside of the first slice of bread and then place the purple jelly on top. Place a dot of hot glue on the center of the jelly and place the dark brown peanut butter on top of that. Place a dot of glue on the center of the peanut butter and place the other slice on top of that. Cut a piece of your magnetic tape and stick to one side. Do this process with all sandwiches. Egg salad is bread, white with yellow mini squares glued onto the white, and bread. Cheese is, bread, cheese slice, and bread. Tomato and lettuce is, bread, tomato slice, lettuce piece, and bread. Write the 21 memory verse words and the text on 22 little pieces of 3 x 5 card and stick a 1/2 of a circle of the self adhesive velcro on the back. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Look up the memory verse and read together. Give out all the sandwiches and have them place them on the board, (Magnetic pieces stick to the wipe/off board) in order. Then gradually allow each child to have a turn removing the stuck on word from the sandwich of their choice and all repeating the verse each time, until all the words are gone. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - EATING THE BREAD Materials needed: Bread from Getting Their Attention Activity 1 c. honey 1 c. butter 1/2 tsp. cinnamon Knives for spreading Paper towels WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make up the honey butter. Mix honey, butter and cinnamon together and place in a container. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Take the bread out of the oven and let cool. Let the children spread each of their rolls with the honey butter if they wish and eat their bread. Talk to them about the following. How is knowing God's Word like eating bread? It goes inside you and becomes a part of you. What happens if you read or memorize God's Word but don't do what it says? It doesn't become a part of you. It doesn't do you any good. God's word is a little like our rolls. God's Word isn't plain or ordinary. God's Word is beautiful. So are our creations. God's Word changes us into loving, kind, patient people. It changes us from the inside out. Right now, let's thank God for His delicious, spiritually nutritious Word to us.
