They are to try and figure out what the words say first without the decoder sheet. Then have them place the decoder sheet on top of the puzzle sheet and have them read the words they see out loud. These are words that describe how Jesus wants us to be and how He lived His life as a child. In our story today we will learn some more about what Jesus was like as a boy. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE- REAL REPORTERS Materials needed: Script printed below, cut up into individual parts Desk or table with chair behind it Video camera (opt) Any clothing props to make each part seem more authentic Microphone, working or not it adds to the realistic effect WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Collect the items listed above. This is designed to include 11 children. If you have a large group you may either split up into smaller groups, or have all the rest be the "studio audience". If your group is smaller, you can do 1 anchor, 1 reporter and 3 interviewees, or 3 interviewees and you are the reporter and drop the anchors. Script: ANCHOR #1: In our report tonight we have an interesting story about a little boy whose life is one that we all would like to follow. ANCHOR #2: That's right. We have several reporters on assignment and we will now go to the first two. ___________, (name of reporter #1) please fill us in on your findings. REPORTER #1: Well, we are here in Egypt, outside the home of Joseph. Joseph, I see your family has been packing your bags and animals. Where are you going? JOSEPH: An angel of the Lord came last night and told me to move back to Nazareth now. REPORTER #2: What will you be doing? JOSEPH: I will open my carpenter shop again. ANCHOR #1: Now, we have a reporter who has visited with Joseph and Mary after they settled into their home. ANCHOR #2: Yes, and we will learn how they are doing. ___________? (name of reporter #3) REPORTER #3: We are visiting with Mary today, in Nazareth, to see how things are going. Mary, how is Jesus doing? He seems to know His scriptures so well. MARY: Yes, He is a good boy. Never complaining. Never disobeying. I know He is different than other children. ANCHOR #2: Now we will skip ahead a few years. ANCHOR #1: Yes, Jesus is now 12. ____________, (name of reporter #4) where are you? REPORTER #4: Well, _____________, (name of anchor #1) we are here in the temple visiting during Passover. This is Rabbi ____________(child's name), who has been talking to Jesus. Rabbi, did you notice any thing different about this boy? RABBI: Yes! He knew His scriptures very well. And he asked questions I didn't quite know how to answer. ANCHOR #2: Now, let's talk to one more set of reporters on the road. ANCHOR #1: These reporters are traveling with Mary and Joseph after everyone else has left. Let's hear their story. REPORTER #5: We're traveling along with Joseph and Mary as they head back to Nazareth. Tell us why you aren't with the group you traveled with and are going alone. JOSEPH: Well, we had to go back and find Jesus. He was missing and we went back to the temple. He said He was about His Father's business. We are just happy He's safe. REPORTER #6: And that wraps up our story on boy Jesus. Stay tuned next week for more details. ANCHOR #1: Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Tell the story using the script and pretend they are a news team reporting on Jesus' boyhood. This could be really cute if it's on video tape.
