===================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, July 29, 2,000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: June 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, "STAND UP AND WALK!" ===================================================== Lesson Aim: God loves to have me ask Him for help and to believe He will give me what I need. Memory Verse: "The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up." James 5:15, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - STAR OF THE SHOW Materials needed: Wide ribbon or streamer (approximately 1 « - 2" wide By 25 - 30' long) (5) 3 X 5 size sheets of paper OR (5) 3 X 5 cards Straight pins Marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On the five pieces of paper or cards print the following word and letters, one letter to a card. BEGIN H E A L WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Select five students. Pin the word or one of the letters on each of the five students. Stand the students in a formation that represents the points of a star. (If you have more than five in the group, they can stand behind one another.) The student wearing the card with the word begin on it should be the bottom right point of the star. The student wearing the H card should be standing where the top point of the star is. The student wearing the E card should be standing at the bottom left point of the star. The student wearing the A card should be standing between the Begin card and the H card and the student wearing the L card should be standing between the H and the E card. Give the child with the begin card the ribbon or streamer. Have them wrap it around their waist. The children then decide what word they can spell with the remaining letters. They pass the streamer around and the child who receives it wraps it around their waist and passes it on. They should figure out that they can spell the word, HEAL. If they wrap the streamer correctly, they will end up with a star shape. In the Bible story today Peter and John become instant stars because they heal a man. Let's see what happens. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE HOPSCOTCH Materials needed: Masking tape P. 22 in Primary quarterly xeroxed 10 times Scissors 3 X 5 cards Markers Bibles Coins (one for each child; any increment) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make a hopscotch board on the floor using the masking tape. Xerox p. 22 in the Primary quarterly ten times. Cut the crippled man out of all the pictures. Lay a picture of the crippled man in the bottom left-hand corner of each square on the hopscotch board. On the 3 X 5 cards print the following words. Then lay them in the appropriate blocks on the hopscotch board so the verse proceeds upward in chronological order. 1. The prayer 2. Offered 3. In faith 4. Will make 5. The sick 6. Person well 7. The Lord 8. Will raise 9. Him up. 10. James 5:15 WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children look up the memory verse in their Bibles. Repeat it together several times. Give each child a coin. The object of the activity is to remove all the crippled men from the board. When a coin lands on a square, the child repeats the verse as they hop on each square and picks up the crippled man and his coin then completes hopping the rest of the board. The 3 X 5 card from the square is then removed. That square is left blank. In subsequent turns whenever a child says the verse during their turn, they must remember what word to supply when they pass the blank square. Each turn will remove a crippled man and word card, unless a coin falls on a blank space. When a coin falls on a blank space that turn is forfeited. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MIND, BODY & SOUL Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that when we talk about healing or being cured we need to understand that more than just our bodies need healing. Our minds get sick from time to time and need healing. Our souls or hearts get sick, and we decide we don't need Jesus anymore, or we decide it's too hard to be a Christian. Jesus wants to heal us completely! He wants our bodies, our minds and our hearts to be completely whole and well. Sometimes He doesn't heal our bodies because our minds and our hearts need healing more. Sometimes He does heal our bodies from disease completely. One thing is for sure. Any time any part of us is healed it is a miracle and it is what God knows is for our very best good. There are many stories in the Bible of people who were healed. As you call to the children's minds the following stories have them stand up and: 1. Place their hands on their head if the person was healed in their mind. 2. Place their hands on their hips if the person was healed physically. 3. Place their hands over their heart if the person was healed spiritually.
