=================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, July 1, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: June 15,2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, WHY JESUS HAD TO DIE ==================================================== Lesson Aim: Jesus died to pay the price of sin for me forever. If I believe in Him and choose to follow Him, I will live with Him forever. Memory Verse: "Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." 1 John 4:ll, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - SEEDS OF SACRIFICE Materials needed: Packages of 4-5 different kinds of seeds 3 x 5 card for each student Elmer's glue Rulers Pencils WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a 3 x 5 card, some of each of the different seeds, a ruler and a pencil. Ask them what a sacrifice is? Webster's dictionary says it is when you give up something valuable. Where do these seeds come from? Plants that have died. New life comes from death. What sacrifice did God make? He gave up His Son to die, so that the seeds of His love could be planted in our hearts. Then we can grow and have new life in Him. Have the children use the pencil and ruler to draw a cross like the one on p. 6 in the quarterly on their 3 X 5 card. Then fill in the inside of the cross with the different types of seeds. In our Bible story today we will talk again about God's sacrifice and why He made it. We will also learn about the kinds of sacrifices we can make. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - PLAN OF SALVATION MATCHING GAME Materials needed: Pictures in Kindergarten Quarterly Teacher's Edition p. 32 + add a picture of the tomb (If you do not have access to a quarterly the pictures are : Jesus in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve Adam & Eve leaving the Garden Jesus born in the stable The cross The tomb The second Coming Scissors WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox the above pictures so each child has a set of all six pictures. They all need to be close to the same size (approximately 2 1/2" high by 2 « - 3" wide) Cut the pictures out, mix them up and arrange them on the floor. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the students that the Plan of Salvation is told in six different pictures on the floor. The object of the game is to collect all six. Each child takes turns turning two cards over. If they do not have either of the cards they may keep both or whichever one they do not have. If they turn over cards they already possess, they turn them back over and the play moves on. When all the cards are collected by all students return to your seats and review the Bible story having the students put their cards in order as you go. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE WORD SCRAMBLE Materials needed: 9 pieces of construction paper (light pastel colors) Markers Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Write one letter from the word, SACRIFICE on each of the 9 sheets of construction paper. On the other side of the construction papers write the following words of the memory verse: S - Dear friends A - since God C - so loved R - us we I - also ought F - to love I - one another C - I John E - 4:11 Scramble the sheets up. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the students look up the memory verse in their Bibles. Then without looking at the memory verse words on the back, they work together to unscramble the word sacrifice. When they have the word displayed on a bulletin board or taped to a wall check it by turning the cards over and reading the verse. If it makes sense, they are correct, if not they try again. The next time put the memory verse in order using the sides of the cards with the memory verse words printed on them. The activity can be more challenging if you put a time limit on it.
