==================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, June 24, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: April 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS KEEPS HIS PROMISE ==================================================== Lesson Aim: When I remember how Jesus kept His promise to His disciples, I can trust that He will keep all His promises. Memory Verse: "Be content with what you have, because God has said,'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'" Hebrews 13:5, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - POCKET OF PROMISES Materials needed: 3-4 slips of paper per each child Pencils (one for each child) 1 piece of square felt (any color) Scissors Hot Glue gun and glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the piece of square felt in half. Out of one half of the felt cut a pocket. Hot glue it to the other half of felt. Glue the sides and bottom but leave the top open for the slips of paper to go in. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child 3-4 slips of paper and a pencil. Ask them to write down something on each slip of paper that they would like someone to promise them. (Example: A promise to take them somewhere special; a promise to not lose their temper at them anymore, etc.) When they have completed a promise paper they fold it up and tuck it into the promise pocket. When the promise pocket is full, remove them and discuss them. 1. Does this sound like a fun promise? 2. Do you think the person could really keep this promise to you? 3. Of all these promises which are the easiest to remember? Jesus made a promise to His disciples. It was a wonderful promise and in the Bible story today He keeps His promise. That's the neat thing about Jesus. He always keeps His promises! GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY CROSSWORD Materials needed: 3 X 5 cards Markers Chalkboard OR write-on/wipe-off board OR poster board Medium to write on the board of your choice WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that as you tell them the Bible story, you will pause after each paragraph. They decide as a group which is the most important word in that paragraph having to do with the story. Write that word on the posterboard or chalkboard. Continue all the way through the story collecting one word from each paragraph. (Or one word per two paragraphs depending on the size of your class and your time allotment.) When all the words are written on the posterboard or chalkboard assign a word to each child and give them the same number of 3 X 5 cards as there are letters in their word. Have each child copy their word from off the board putting one letter on each card. (Keep all the cards horizontal) Some children may need to do more than one word so all the words can be used on the posterboard. The child with the longest word lays his/her letter cards down on the floor first. Then each child builds their word off what is already available. The object of the activity is to fit each of the words into a large floor crossword puzzle. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE MAZE Materials needed: 1 rope or cord 12 - 15 feet 4 clothes pins 1 blindfold Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) String the rope so it is stretched out its entire length. Attach the clothes pins three feet apart along the rope. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children look up the memory verse in their Bibles. Show them how the verse is broken up into 4 sections, with a comma or semi-colon after each section. Blindfold the first child. They begin at one end of the rope and while holding onto it walk as quickly as possible to the first clothes pins. They repeat the first section of the memory verse at that clothes pin. They then move to the next clothes pin and repeat the second section of the memory verse. The third and fourth clothes pin follow respectively. Have each child in the class do the activity. If time allows, they can try to cut the amount of time it takes them to get from one end to the other on each successive turn. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE -BIBLE BUSINESS CARDS Materials needed: 3 X 5 cards 1 sheet of plain white paper Black thin-line marker Glue sticks Religious stickers (small) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the 3 X 5 cards into the size of business cards. Cut enough for each child to have 8 - 10. On the plain white paper trace a business card and type in the following information. Jesus Christ, Promise-keeper For all your needs consult Jesus Christ Promise-keeper since the beginning of time Hebrews 13:5 Xerox this business card information so each child will have a copy for each of their business cards. Cut them out. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child eight to ten 3 X 5 cards, xeroxed information, stickers and a glue stick. Have them make cards to share with their friends, family and school buddies. Encourage them to give as many away as possible this week.
