===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, May 15, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Cyndi Long) Date: March 15, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, ALIVE IN A FIERY FURNACE ===================================================================== Lesson Aim: God will help me say No to people who try to get me to disobey. Memory Verse: "I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:13, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION- YES/NO SIGNS Materials needed: Popsicle sticks, one per child Large circle cut from tag board, approx. 4-5" dia., one per child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Print a large red No on one side of the circle and a green Yes on the other side. Glue the popsicle stick to the bottom the circle. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Tell the children you have some situations, and they are to decide if it is something they will do or not. They use their yes/no signs to answer you. Scenarios: Your friend asks you to lie to the teacher about something they did. Your visiting some friends of your mom and dad and they want you to eat some things you know are wrong. Some kids have asked you to go see a movie with them and you know Jesus wouldn't like what happens in the movie. Your brother wants you to sneak some cookies from the kitchen without your mom knowing. Your friends dare you to take a candy bar from the store. It's not easy to stand up for what's right. That's what the four boys in our Bible story found out today. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE- RIGHT HAND MEMORY VERSE Materials needed: Paper Pencils Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Read the directions below and prepare a sample for the students to see. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Look up and read the memory verse together. Give each student a paper. Lightly trace around their right hand in pencil. Beginning on the left side at the thumb, write the words of the memory verse, following the line around the fingers and outline of the hand right above the trace line. The memory verse should make up the drawing of the hand once you are done. The trace line can be erased if you wish. Don't write too big, the smaller the better. Use colorful markers to make it look pretty. When you do the sample adult hand you will have to copy the verse more than once. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - MAZE Materials needed: Post-it papers Pencils Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child several post-its and a pencil. Have them write down one word sins that Satan tempts them with. Talk about each sin and assign one child to write it on his post-it. Do not write any of the sins more than once. For example the following seven sins could be written down by the children: CHEAT, LIE, STEAL, SASS, MAKE-FUN, BULLY, DISOBEY. They will probably be able to come up with their own. Have seven children stick the post-its on the front of their Sabbath outfit. Stand them in a staggered maze-like fashion in a corner of the room. These children chant the word that is written on their post-it. You, the teacher, show them by example how to get through the maze of sins by using God's word as a promise of help. Approach one of the children who is chanting and say, "I am the Lord, your God, do not fear; I will help you." As soon as you say that, the child must stop chanting. Go to the next child and repeat the procedure. The object of the game is to get through the maze as quickly as you can, turning off the chanters by quoting a portion of the memory verse. You take one of the children's places and let them have a turn through the maze. Continue replacing children until all the children have a turn through the maze. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE- JUST SAY NO SONG Materials needed: Music for "If Your Happy And You Know It" WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Have the music pre- recorded onto a tape if you don't have a pianist WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: The song is sung to the tune of "If Your Happy And You Know It". Talk to the children about the fact that God will always help them to say No to people who ask them to disobey. Satan is always trying to get us to do things Jesus doesn't want us to do. All we have to do is ask God to help us and He will. Sing the song with the children a couple of times so that they learn the verse. If your asked to disobey, just say no. If your asked to disobey, just say no. For God is always with you, He is holding your right hand. If your asked to disobey, just say no.
