===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, March 27, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: January 31, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, LEPERS BRING GOOD NEWS ===================================================================== Lesson Aim: I can trust God's promises. God does what He says He will do. Memory Verse: "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father." James 1:17, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - GROCERY STORE SPREE Materials needed: Magazines with pictures of food Scissors Poster board Yard stick Permanent Marker Glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On the poster board draw lines using the yard stick and permanent marker to represent the shelves of a super market. Tape or pin the poster board up at a height accessible to the children. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Tell the children they are to pretend they have not eaten for two days. Someone takes them to the grocery store and giving them a cart tells them they may have 15 minutes to fill it with whatever they want. At the end of the 15 minutes they have to check out the groceries. Each child is given a magazine or two. They are to pretend that what is in the magazine is what is available in the grocery store. They will have 5 minutes only to look through the magazine, cut out foods they want and glue them on the shelves on the poster board. At the end of the five minutes collect the magazines and other supplies. Look at the poster board/s together. Discuss the following questions: 1. How many foods on our shelves are necessary? How many are just treats or junk? 2. If you knew someone else who was going without food like you were, would you tell them about your cart of groceries? In our story today, the Israelites have very little food; they are starving. God promises to provide them with food in a miraculous way. Let's see what happens. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE GIFTS Materials needed: Tissue paper (Yellow, OR red, OR pink) (Comes in a square with 8 sheets to a pack) Pipe cleaners (one for each child) Small cards (found in Florist's shops or make your own) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut each child a square of tissue paper approximately 7" X 10". Make sure each square has all eight sheets in thickness. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Look up the memory verse in the Bible. Read it together. Talk about some of the good gifts Jesus has sent us. Flowers are one of the gifts God has given us to enjoy. As we prepare for Spring we look forward to their beauty and fragrance. Give each child their square of tissue paper and pipe cleaner and follow these directions together: 1. Turn the square so one of the 7" sides is in front of you. 2. Fold the tissue back and forth in an accordian fashion as if making a fan. The folds are approximately 1" wide. 3. Lay your pipe cleaner down in the middle of your folds. Leave 1" sticking out at the top. 4. Take the left-hand side of your folded squares and fold it over so it touches the right- hand side. You should have just folded your eight accordian folds in half. Your pipe cleaner is now on the left-hand side. Fold the 1" leftover top down so all the folds are held in place by the pipe cleaner. The pipe cleaner becomes the stem of the flower. 5. Pick up the tissue folds and begin separating them. Bunch and separate until all folds crinkle and meet together forming a flower. 6. Write the memory verse on the small card. Share the flower with someone this week. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - GOD'S PROMISES GUESSING GAME Materials needed: 3 X 5 cards WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Write the following clues and answers on 3 X 5 cards. There are three clues on every card. 1. God promised to send a flood. I believed Him and built an ark. I and my family were kept safe. Who am I? (Noah) 2. God promised to make me into a great nation. I believed Him and moved where He told me to go. God also promised me a son. Who am I? (Abraham) 3. God promised me that the walls of Jericho would fall down. I believed Him and followed His directions. I am the great leader who followed Moses. Who am I? (Joshua) 4. God promised to make me the wisest man alive. God showed me how to make a good decision about a baby and two mothers. I became very rich and known for my wisdom. Who am I? (King Solomon) 5. Jesus promised to return to take me to Heaven. He is preparing a home for me there. I know I can trust His promise. Who am I? (Each of us) WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Each child or group of children, depending on the size of your class, chooses a 3 X 5 card. They give the clues and the rest of the children guess who they are. Make up more clue cards if desired. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - PROMISE SONG Materials needed: Music to "Jesus Loves Me" Song Construction paper or card stock paper Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make 6-8" high music notes out of the construction paper or card stock. Make one for each child. Using a pencil, print the following verse on the head (egg-shape part) of each note. What God says I know He'll do For His promises are true When I give my word to you I will keep my promise too WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a musical note. Read the words together and talk about their meaning. Have each child trace over the words with colored markers. Sing the song to the tune of "Jesus Loves Me" several times together to commit it to memory. Encourage the children to take the music note home and put it up in a prominent place where they can remember to sing it several times during the coming week.
