======================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, February 26, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: February 6, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS HAD TIME FOR CHILDREN TOO ======================================================= Lesson Aim: Jesus wants to be my Friend, just like He was the Friend of the children during Bible times. Memory Verse: "Jesus said,'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'" Matt. 19:14, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION -A DAY WITH JESUS Materials needed: Drawing paper Colored pencils or crayons WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Ask the students to imagine that they can spend a whole day with Jesus. Where would they go and what would they like to do? (Example: Football field? Baseball game? Mall? Stay at home?) Ask them to illustrate the place and some of the things they would do on the drawing paper. Give them an opportunity to talk about their pictures and share their ideas. In our story today many children get to spend the day with Jesus. How excited they must have been. We can only imagine some of the things they did together. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MOST IMPORTANT PART Materials needed: Large sheet of butcher block paper (15' piece) Scissors Pencils Small slips of paper WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out a head, torso and trunk from about 4 feet of the paper. Tape it to a wall or pin it to a board surface. Cut the remaining paper into the following sizes. (2 - Two and a half foot sections; 2 - One foot sections; 2 - One and a half foot sections; 2 - Six inch sections) Write the following body parts on the small slips of paper. Each child in the class will need to draw out a slip of paper with a body part written on it. Add more body parts as needed for a larger size class or combine body parts to make fewer slips for smaller class size. (2 slips that say arm; 2 slips that say hand; 2 slips that say leg; 2 slips that say foot; 1 slip that says, face etc.) WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Direct the children to the partial man hanging at the front. He is missing important parts of his body. Each child draws a slip of paper from your hand, takes a section of white paper, pencil and scissors and finds a corner of the room to make that body part for the man out of their section of paper. (Whatever body part their making needs to be somewhat close in proportional size to the partial man, so it doesn't look ridiculous when they attach it to him.) While they are making their body part, they are to think of a convincing way to prove to the rest of the class that the body part they are attaching to the man is the most important to the man. When everyone has their body part made, have them come to the front one at a time, tape their body part to the man and tell why they think it is the most important part of the body. In the Bible story today, each disciple wanted to be the most important person in God's Kingdom. Jesus wanted them to understand that each person is special and needed just like each of our body parts are important. It doesn't matter whether you're an adult or a child, Jesus loves you and needs you. It doesn't matter whether you've been to school for a short time or for a long time, Jesus loves you and needs you. It doesn't matter whether your a boy or a girl, Jesus loves you and needs you. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE UNSCRAMBLE Materials needed: Blindfold (Big enough for your adult head) 3 X 5 cards Markers Bibles Straight pins WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Have the children look up the memory verse in their Bible. Depending on the size of your group, assign them several words or a portion of the memory verse to write on their 3 X 5 card. Stick their 3 X 5 card to the front of them with a straight pin. Have one of the children blindfold you. Tell them you will leave the blindfold on until you are finished counting to ten. They are to arrange themselves in the right order so the verse can be read correctly before you remove your blindfold. (If your class is very small, arrange the cards on a table or on the floor rather than having the children wear them. If your class is very large divide the verse into very small portions.) If they have the verse correct when you remove the blindfold, reduce the time to 6 minutes, then 3 etcetera. If it is incorrect, give them an opportunity to try again. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - GOD LOVES KIDS POSTER Materials needed Poster board Polaroid camera & film (Enough film to take a picture of each child) Markers Brown construction paper Picture of Jesus standing or sitting WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut a large trunk and branches of various sizes and lengths from the brown construction paper. The trunk needs to be as tall as the poster board and the branches cut so they fill out the rest of the poster board. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that they are going to make a unique poster about Jesus and them. It will be about having fun with Jesus and what it means to be friends with Him. Each child will take a picture of another child in the class. The pictures will be glued on the branches, so encourage creativity and thought as to unique ways to take them. (Upside down, reaching etc.) Glue the trunk and branches in place on the poster board. Glue a nice picture of Jesus standing or sitting beside or in front of the tree. Have the children select a branch to glue their picture to. Think of a catchy title to write on the bottom of the poster with markers. It needs to include the idea about Jesus and them being buddies or friends. Be sure and display the poster somewhere in the church where it can be appreciated and enjoyed by all. (Optional - If the film idea is too expensive or not available, the children can draw themselves on the branches doing fun things. (Swinging, sliding, hugging the tree, hanging etc.)
