===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, January 30, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: December 15, 1998 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, SOLOMON CHOOSES WISDOM ===================================================================== Lesson Aim: God will give me wisdom when I ask Him. Memory Verse: "God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness." Eccl. 2:26, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - DREAM-WISH COLLAGE Materials needed: Catalogs or magazines suitable for cutting pictures from (Include magazines with pictures of toys, clothes, vehicles, food and also religious magazines with pictures.) Glue sticks Poster board or plain white sheet of butcher block paper same size as poster board Scissors WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Set-up several work areas in the room that include the above supplies. Draw the form of a large cloud on the poster board or butcher block paper. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Tell the children to close their eyes for 1 minute and imagine they are having a dream. In their dream they are told they can have whatever they wish for. Now have them open their eyes and go to a supply area. They will have 10 minutes to look through the magazines and find three pictures that show or tell about what they have wished for. If they can't find any pictures that suit them, they can draw a small picture. The pictures are then brought to the poster board cloud and glued on in a collage fashion. After the children return together as a large group, show the poster board "dream" and talk about some of the wishes chosen. In our Bible story today a man had a dream and was given a chance to have whatever he asked for. Let's find out what he got. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE DRAMA OR VIDEO Materials needed: 2 crowns A man's robe A woman's robe Jewelry Baby doll Blanket 2 pillowcases & 2 safety pins Chair Play sword or one made from cardboard Video camcorder & tape (If you plan to record the drama) VCR and TV WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Write out the following speaking parts on small slips of paper: "One night this woman's baby died. She traded her dead baby for my living one while I was sleeping." "That's a lie! The living baby is mine." "No! The living baby is mine!" "Bring me a sword." "Cut the baby in two and give half to each woman." "No. Give her the child. Just don't kill it." "Go ahead. Then no one will have the baby." "Give the baby to the first woman. She is the true mother." "I did not believe what I heard about you. But I see with my own eyes that you are wiser and greater than I was told. Blessed be your God who has made you king." WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Select four volunteers to act out the Bible story. The two mothers wear the pillowcases on their heads, pinned at the back of their neck. King Solomon wears the man's robe and one of the crowns and the Queen of Sheba wears the woman's robe and other crown. Set a chair at the front of the room for King Solomon's throne. Place the sword beside the chair. Give out the appropriate speaking parts to the four participants and go over them. Run through the story once with you as the narrator showing the children when to come in and cuing them in on their speaking parts. Video tape the story if possible the second time. Do the story as many times as you have volunteers who wish to participate. (It is a short one and does not take very long.) After all the recordings, play the tape back on a TV for the children to view. The tape can be shared for viewing during an adult Sabbath School program if desired. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE DICE ROLL Materials needed: 1 dice Bibles Poster board, write-on/wipe-off board or chalk board Medium for writing on board WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Write down each child's name on the board. Leave space beside or under the name to record six numbers. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Look up the memory verse in the Bibles. Read it and say it together several times. Each child takes a turn rolling the dice. Whatever number it lands on is the verse word that the child repeats. (For example - If the dice lands on three, the child must say, "wisdom". If it lands on six, he must say, "happiness".) Whenever a child has completed a turn successfully repeating the correct word, that number that was rolled on the dice is recorded by his name on the board. If he rolls that number on a subsequent turn, he says the word again, but the number is not recorded a second time on the board. The game is over when someone has all six numbers written by his name on the board. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - WKH TOKENS Materials needed: Poster board Scissors Praying Hands Stickers Baby Food Jar (one for each child) Labels (one rectangular one for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out poster board discs about the size of a quarter. Make 5 for each child. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a baby food jar and a label. On the label have them print the letters, WKH. Stick the label on the front of the jar. Ask them to recall their memory verse and tell you what three things God promises to give us that start with W, K and H? (Wisdom, knowledge and happiness.) Now give each child the 5 card board tokens. Ask them how we can get wisdom and knowledge from God? (By praying) On each token the children either place a praying hands sticker or write the word, pray. Have them take their tokens home in the jar. At the beginning of each day this week, they are to remove all the tokens from their jar. During the day or at the end of the day, whenever they remember to pray and ask God for help or wisdom about anything they add a token to their jar. Encourage them to see if they can fill the token jar each day with their five l,tokens.
