===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, January 29, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use as a supplement to help teach the lesson, THE LOST IS FOUND ===================================================================== Lesson Aim: Memory Verse: "There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:10, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - PUZZLE PROBLEMS Materials needed: Simple puzzle for each child (religious or nature; 25 pieces or less) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Remove a central piece (one that really adds to the clarity of the picture) from each child's puzzle ahead of time. Place the remaining pieces in a Ziploc bag. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a flat surface area to work at and a puzzle to put together. Comment on the end product and their frustration over the lost piece. After everyone has given up the search for their missing piece supply them so the puzzles can be completed. Talk about the joy of having a complete picture. This joy is what Jesus wants the Pharisees and other religious leaders and teachers to know and experience when sinners repent and turn to Jesus. Jesus wants Heaven to be complete with as many people there as possible. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - LOST SHEEP HUNT Materials needed: Flashlight (preferably one for each child; call the home and ask for them to bring one if needed) Outline of a sheep (p. 34 in Kindergarten teacher's quarterly) 3 X 5 cards (one for each child) Pens/pencils Scissors WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make 16 sheep. Cut them out and print a word of the memory verse on each sheep. Right under the word write a corresponding number that tells where the word comes in chronological order in the verse. (For example: rejoicing #3) Hide the sheep in dark places in a room. On the 3 X 5 cards draw 16 lines, one for each word of the memory verse. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a 3 X 5 card, a pencil or pen and a flashlight. Tell them there are 16 sheep missing. They are to use their flashlights and look for them. When they find a sheep they copy the word on the sheep onto the correct line on their 3 X 5 card. They leave the sheep where it is hiding for someone else to find. They will know that they have found all the sheep when they have all the lines filled in on their card. (If you want the activity to take less time, put two words of the memory verse on each sheep. Then you'll only have eight to hide and find.) When everyone has returned to their seats, look up the memory verse in the Bible and compare it to what is printed on their cards. Repeat it several times together. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - Materials needed: Blindfold Slips of paper WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Write the following statements on slips of paper. Roll them up and place them in a bag or basket. 1. What if I don't go to Sabbath School or church much anymore? 2. What if I don't read my Bible or study my Sabbath school lesson very often? 3. What if I forget to say my prayers at night? 4. What if I haven't been baptized yet? 5. What if I can't go to church school? 6. What if I feel bored during the sermons the pastor preaches? 7. What if I sometimes feel mad at God? WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Designate one child as the shepherd. Blindfold him/her. The rest of the children are assigned the roll of lost sheep. They take a slip of paper from the bag or basket and go hide somewhere in the room. Once they have selected a spot they cannot move. The blindfolded shepherd calls, "sheep". All the lost sheep have to answer, "baa". When a shepherd finds one of the lost sheep the sheep (or you the teacher) reads his/her slip of paper. The shepherd responds with "Jesus still loves you and wants you to repent." The sheep stays with him as he goes looking for the rest of the sheep. He cannot help the shepherd find the other sheep. When the shepherd has collected all the missing sheep he removes his blindfold and leads them all back to "the fold" which can be their chairs. Make sure and discuss how people can be like lost sheep. They can say or do or feel things that make them feel separated from God. God always plans ways to keep us close to Him. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE -LOST FLIERS Materials needed: 8 « X 11 sheets of plain white paper (several for each child) Markers Yarn Glue WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child several sheets of plain white paper, some markers and several pieces of yarn approximately 12" in length. 1. In large bold lettering at the top of the paper, the children print the word, LOST. 2. In the center of the paper they make a box by gluing the yarn in a square shape with 3" on each side. 3. Underneath the box across the bottom of the page they write, YOU ARE NOT TOO LOST FOR GOD TO FIND. Call Heaven for help. 4. In the yarn box they may draw a picture of themselves or take it home and glue a photo of themselves inside. 5. They may be able to think of others they want to share a flier with.
