GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -"IF YOU WERE...." BOOK Materials needed: Four large sheets of paper (cut approximately 2" smaller on all sides than a piece of poster board) Two pieces of posterboard Several brass fasteners Hole punch Crayons or markers Pencils WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Print on the bottom of the first sheet of paper the following words. "If you were a mouse in his hole, when David asked about anyone left in Saul's family, what would you hear and see?" On the bottom of the second sheet, print, "If you were a fly on the wall when Ziba got to the palace, what would you hear and see?" On the bottom of the third sheet, print, "If you were a bug in the rug at Mephibosheth's house, what would you hear and see?" On the bottom of the fourth sheet, print, "If you were a bird in the window in David's Palace, what would you hear and see?" WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Once you have told them the lesson story explain that they will be making a book. If you have a large group of children you might want to split them up and make two books. Several children can work on a page together. Read the caption at the bottom of their page and ask them to illustrate it. Place the four illustrated pages between the two poster boards. Punch holes down the left-hand side and bind together with brass fasteners. Ask the children to think of a catchy title for their book. They can also print their names at the bottom as the authors. Come back together as a large group and share the illustrated book/s from the front. Share the book with someone who might need something to brighten their day. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE PUZZLE Materials needed: Colorful sheets of foam for each child (Purchased in craft stores) Permanent markers Stickers opt. Scissors Large envelope for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES:(To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Look up the memory verse in the Bible together and read. Give each child a foam sheet and tell them to print their memory verse on it in permanent marker, substituting the following symbols in place of these memory verse words: "Be" draw a bee "to" draw a 2 "one" draw a 1 "love" draw a heart "one" draw a 1 "above" draw an up arrow. The younger children may require your assistance in printing the words. They can fill in the picture symbols. If the children can think of symbols for the other words in the text, encourage them to do those also. Using the scissors, cut the foam into simple square puzzle pieces and place them in an envelope for each child. (Large Sabbath schools will want to prepare the puzzle pieces ahead of time. The children can assemble them, do the printing and take them back apart.) The stickers can be used for opt. decoration. Encourage the children to share their puzzles with someone.
