===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, January 15, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use as a supplement to help teach the lesson, JESUS VISITS HIS FRIENDS ===================================================================== Lesson Aim: Memory Verse: "Only one things is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:42, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - WORD SCRAMBLE Materials needed: 3 X 5 cards (Each child needs 3) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the 3 X 5 cards in half. On each of the children's cards print the following letters, one letter to a card. I T S L N E. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child their pile of letters. Tell them they have 5 minutes to make up two words with their letters. Each word must use all the letters and each word is dependent on the other. You cannot do one without doing the other. (The words are SILENT & LISTEN.) Give clues as necessary to help them along. After everyone has spelled the words talk about how you cannot listen unless you are silent and when you are silent you are automatically ready to listen. In our Bible story today Jesus spends some time in a home where at least one person there was eager to be silent and listen. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE WORD RECORD KEEPING Materials needed: Piece of paper Pencil WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) In your quarterly highlight the following words or derivatives of words in different colors: Listen/listened/listening - Highlight in one color Important - Highlight in another color Jesus - Highlight in a third color WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child a piece of paper and a pencil. Have them write the words, listen, important and Jesus somewhere on the paper. Tell them you want to see how good they are at listening and recording information. Whenever they hear the word listen in the story they make a mark on their paper. (Explain that any word that sounds like listen is counted, such as listened, listening etc.) Whenever they hear the word important in the story they make a mark near the word important and the same for Jesus. At the end of the story check tally marks by asking questions such as the following: 1. Which word has the most marks? 2. How many times did I refer to listening? 3. Was important the most important word in the story? Was it mentioned the most or the least? GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -MEMORY VERSE GO-ROUND Materials needed: Tape recorder or pianist Beanie baby or small stuffed animal WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Find the memory verse in the Bible. Read and repeat it several times together. Have the children sit in a circle on the floor. Give one child in the circle the beanie baby or stuffed animal. As the pianist or tape recorder plays they are to begin passing the animal. When the music stops whoever is holding the animal repeats the memory verse. If they cannot repeat it they sit in the middle of the circle and listen and learn it as others repeat it. They may leave the circle and take someone else's place whenever another person cannot repeat it. The game is not won by eliminating players but rather by everyone in the circle being able to repeat the verse whenever the animal lands on them and the music stops. Make sure no one is left in the middle by the end of the game. Anyone left in the middle gets another chance to repeat the verse and find a place in the circle. When everyone in the circle can repeat the verse they have all won and the game is over. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - TUNING INTO JESUS BOOKMARKS Materials needed: Musical signs and musical note stickers 6" X 1" pieces of heavy card stock paper (2-3 for each child) Contact paper Hole punch 5" piece of yarn WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the pieces of card stock paper into 6" x 1" pieces. Cut 2-3 for each child. Cut the contact paper into 6 1/4 " x 1 1/4" pieces. Cut six pieces for each child. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Give each child some musical signs and note stickers and his/her pieces of card stock. Have them write the words, "Have you tuned into God today?" on the card stock. Decorate the remainder of the card stock with the stickers. Leave room at the top to punch a hole. Cover the card stock with contact paper, and loop the yarn through the hole to use as a tassel for the bookmark. Trim off excess contact paper. Encourage the children to share the bookmarks with others this week.
