WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: The purpose of this activity is to see if they will follow the directions in order or skip around. But the importance of being in order should not be mentioned. Just simply tell them they will be going on a little hunt and then give them the instructions. Instruct the children to take only one letter from each location. When they bring the letters back to you place them on the poster board in the order they give them to you. Write their name beside their letters. They should do this activity quietly. If they follow your directions correctly they will spell the word respect. Show them what the final outcome looks like. In our story today two men did not follow God's directions correctly and didn't show respect. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -BIBLE STORY MAP Materials needed: King size white sheet OR two large strips of newsprint taped together at the back, OR a large oil cloth Pencil and markers Holy Land map (Can be found in most Bibles) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Draw a simple map outline on the sheet or newsprint paper using the Bible map as a reference. You will need to draw the towns (a few simple buildings and a name) of Ziglag, Hebron, Jerusalem, and BethShemesh ( make the buildings and towns for BethShemesh and then a house close to but separate from that. It will represent the house of Abinadab) Draw in a road leading from Ziglag, to Hebron, to Jerusalem to Abinadab's house. Draw in the water also. Draw the towns far enough apart so the children can stand on the map and walk several steps to go from one place to another. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Explain to the children that they are going to do some traveling today. Have them join you on the map and begin the lesson story at Ziglag. As you narrate the story move on the map whenever David travels in the story. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -MEMORY VERSE PATH Materials needed: 7 sets (left and right) of foot prints WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Print one word of the memory verse on each foot print. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Place the foot prints, word side up, in order in a path on the floor. Have the students look up and read their memory verse from the Bible. Explain that they will line up and step on each foot print as they say that word of the memory verse. See how quickly the whole group can move through the pathway, once they've learned the verse. Flip over foot prints one set at a time. Have each child repeat the memory verse words again before removing another set. If you don't have time to completely go through the line each time, have the children all repeat the verse together as each student goes over the path. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - I LOVE JESUS, NOTES Materials needed: A heavy piece of card stock, (8 « X 11) for each child Pencils Markers Heart stickers, opt. WHAT THE TEACHER DOES:(To prepare ahead) Fold the card stock in half to resemble a card. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Discuss with the children ways they show their mom or dad they love them. Ask them how they can show their love for Jesus. Encourage them to think of the way they obey and respect the people God has put in authority over them such as their parents and teachers. When they obey and respect these people, they are showing obedience and respect to God. Talk about your own love for Jesus and your desire to obey Him. Ask the children if they love Jesus. Tell them to draw and color a picture of themselves on the front of the card. On the inside they will write, "I love you, Jesus," (they can stop there or continue if they desire) "so much that I want to do what You ask me to do." This is their card to Jesus. The picture of themselves on the front represents them giving themselves to Jesus, the best gift He has ever had. Tell them to take it home to remind them of their desire to do as Jesus asks of them.
