===================================================================== Title: Primary Sabbath School Program, January 1, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use as a supplement to help teach the lesson, THE MAN WHO REMEMBERED ===================================================================== Lesson Aim: Memory Verse: "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." Psalm 100:4, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - PRAISE/THANKS ACROSTIC Materials needed: Write-on/wipe-off board OR blackboard OR poster board Writing medium for whichever board you choose WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) In large letters write the word PRAISE on the top left-hand side of the board, vertically. Leave a space and write the word THANKS underneath it, also vertically. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Ask the children what the difference is between praising Jesus and thanking Him. (Praise tells God what it is about Him that you worship and adore. Thanks shows our appreciation for how He has manifested Himself in our lives, by giving us things, doing things for us etc.) Have the children take turns writing things beside the letters that they want to praise God or thank God for. Some suggestions follow: P - Perfect sinless life T - Taste buds R - Ruler of the universe H -Home; Heaven A - Able to do anything A - Animals I - Imagination N - Never leaving us S - Savior K - Keeping us safe E - Eternal, everlasting love S -Saving our world In our story today 10 men are given a reason for praising and thanking God. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY DRAMATIZATION Materials needed: Talcum powder Cotton balls (one for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: The children will all represent the lepers in the story. Using a cotton ball, they dab powder dots all over their arms legs, face and neck. As you narrate the story give them directions on where they should be and what kind of actions or words they should be producing. Have a focal point in the room represent where Jesus is. When the lepers run off to see the priests, make sure one child returns to the focal point to thank Jesus. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -MEMORY VERSE MEGAPHONE Materials needed: Poster board (one piece for each child; bright neon colors) Scotch tape Scissors Markers Stickers (optional) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Each child will make a megaphone with the memory verse on it for use in the Acting on Scripture Activity. 1. Look up the memory verse in the Bible. Read it and repeat it together several times. Mark the spot in the Bible for easy reference later. 2. Help each child roll a sheet of posterboard into a megaphone shape. (Try this before Sabbath School. The top left and right-hand corners fold or roll down toward the center of the board, making a small diameter for a mouthpiece while the rest of the poster board widens out into a large diameter circle.) 3. You will probably have to do the shaping of the poster board. Instruct them where to tape it as you hold it in shape. 4. Cut the left-over point of cardboard off the large round end so it is perfectly round. 5. Have each child print the memory verse onto the megaphone as much from memory as possible. Decorate with stickers as desired. 6. Practice "proclaiming" the verse using the megaphones. (It really does make a carrying sound.) 7. Use the megaphones in the next activity. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - CHEERS FOR GOD Materials needed: Megaphones from previous activity Write-on/wipe-off board OR black board Writing medium to go with board WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE STUDENTS DO: Talk about what a pep rally is. (When people gather together to cheer a team or group of people to victory) God loves to hear our praises and thanksgivings. Help the children make up some of their own cheers for God. Write their ideas on the board. Practice saying them through the megaphones. (You might want to go outside if weather permits and practice saying them loudly and with energy) Example: 2-4-6-8 Jesus I appreciate 1-7-5-2 Hope that you will praise Him too Example: 3-7-5-9 Jesus love is mighty fine 5-7-9-11 Praise God we'll meet Him in Heaven
