****************************************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, December 11, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: November 1, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS LOVES EVERYONE ****************************************************************************** Lesson Aim: Jesus loves each of us. Memory Verse: "You have great faith!......" Matt. 15:28, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - DIFFERENT FACES (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: Small thin paper plates (dessert size) (One for each child in the class) Crayons Small slips of paper (One for each child in the class) Scotch tape OR a stapler WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On the small slips of paper write the following sentences, one sentence to a strip. Roll the strips of paper up and place in a small basket or bag. 1. Make a happy face 2. Make a sad face 3. Make a mad face 4. Make a white girl's face 5. Make a black boy's face 6. Make a face with a scar or hurt on it (Think up as many different kinds of faces as you have children in the group, so each child draws and colors a face on a paper plate.) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a paper plate and some crayons. Have them draw a slip of paper from the basket. Read the sentence to them and ask them to draw that kind of a face on their plate. While the children are drawing faces talk about how many different kinds of people there are in the world. People who look different from us on the outside. People who feel differently then we do and people who act differently. Ask the children if they know how we are all connected together? (Begin to tape or staple the edges of the paper plates together to form a cross with them. The size of the cross doesn't matter, it can be large or small, as long as the plates are taped together in that form.) Jesus' love for each of us connects us in love to each other. This is the lesson the disciples learned in our Bible story this week. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY POEM (An auditory activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Read the following poem to tell the Bible story. Tell the children to listen closely, so they can help you fill in the last word of each verse with a word that rhymes. There once was a girl who was sick she couldn't think right in her head Because evil angels made her do hurtful things She had to spend much time in ____________(bed) Her mother had heard about Jesus and the wonderful things He could do But because she was different and not from his land She didn't know if He'd help her out ___________(too) She didn't know about Jesus' great love She didn't know about Jesus' care She didn't know that even as she was thinking of Him He was on His way to help her _______________(there) The mother knelt down before Jesus She begged Him her daughter to heal But Jesus didn't answer her right at that time He waited to see how the disciples would __________(feel) The disciples got tired of her asking They told Jesus to send her away But in His great love He rewarded her faith And her daughter was healed that same __________(day) Jesus helpers learned a great lesson And it's one that we need to know too His love is for everyone, no one's left out and that includes me and ____________(you) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE SONG ADAPTED (A kinesthetic & auditory activity) Materials needed: Pianist or cassette tape player Music to "Are You Sleeping" WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) If you don't have a pianist, record the tune of "Are You Sleeping" onto a cassette tape two to three times in a row. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children join hands and stand in a circle. Show them where the memory verse is found in your Bible. Tell the children they are to repeat every line after you both the melody and the words. Whenever you the teacher sing, the children circle around to the right, whenever they sing change the direction and circle around to the left. You have great faith (teacher sings) You have great faith (children sing) Said the Lord (teacher sings) Said the Lord (children sing) Your request is granted (teacher sings) Your request is granted (children sing) What a reward! (Teacher sings) What a reward! (Children sing) ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - RAINBOW COLORS (A primarily visual activity) Materials needed: Colors (6-8 different shades for each child) Rubber bands (one for each child) 5 X 7 sheet of card stock for each child Pencil Stickers *optional WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's 5 X 7 card stock sheet, print in large letters the words, JESUS LOVES US ALL. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have each child choose 6-8 different colors, bunch them together and put a rubber band around them tightly enough so that they are one strong unit. Have them trace over the words, JESUS LOVES US ALL using their "giant colored pen". Bring out the point that even though there are many different colors each is special and unique and adds to the beauty of the picture. Even though we are all very different we are special and unique and very loved by Jesus. That's the love He wants us to have for each other. Add stickers if desired.
