****************************************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, November 20, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: November 1, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS RAISES A LITTLE GIRL TO LIFE ****************************************************************************** Lesson Aim: Jesus takes care of us in the best way. Memory Verse: "Your faith has healed you." Matt. 9:22, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - DOCTOR, DOCTOR (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: Play nurse/doctor kit OR real medical equipment such as: blood pressure cuff, empty syringe, stethoscope, pill bottles, band-aids or bandages WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Place the items used by medical personnel in a suitcase or sack. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children take turns pulling an item from the suitcase or sack. Talk together about how these items are used to help people who are sick or to help people find out what kind of sickness they have. After each child pulls out an item they can practice "treating" their classmates. (Taking blood pressures, giving shots, listening to heartbeats, pretending to give out medicine, applying band-aids.) With a larger group, give everyone at least one turn to "treat" someone else. In our story today Jesus was able to help two very sick people, and He didn't have to use any medical equipment! GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - HAPPY/SAD STORY (An auditory & kinesthetic activity) Materials needed: One popsicle stick for each child Two plain white circles for each child approximately the size of a baby food jar lid. Glue sticks Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out two plain white circles for each child the size of a baby food jar lid. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children draw a happy face on one of the circles. Next have them draw a sad face on the other circle. Glue the circles together with the popsicle stick in-between. Make sure the faces are not upside down. As you tell the story, pause at places in the story where the characters are experiencing a positive or negative emotion. Ask the children to signal to you by showing a side of their popsicle stick how the person or people's face might look. For example: When the little girl became very sick, how did the parent's faces look? (Sad) When Jairus found Jesus and He agreed to come, how did Jairus's face look? (Happy) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - CIRCLE OF FAITH (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: Cassette tape with music to the song, B-I-B-L-E recorded on it OR a piano player with music Bible WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice singing the tune of the B-I-B-L-E with these alternate words: Your faith has healed you Your faith has healed you Because you put your trust in God Your faith has healed you WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Have them make a wide circle holding hands. Drop hands. Have each child lay down, feet pointing toward the inner part of the circle, body and head extended like a ray away from the circle. You, the teacher, stand in the middle of the circle. You begin by saying the memory verse, then extend your hand and pull one of the children up to a standing position. That child then says the memory verse and extends their hand, pulling the child on their right up to the circle. This continues all the way around the circle until all the children have had an opportunity to repeat the verse and add someone to the circle. After the circle is complete, hold hands and make the circle go around (like Ring-Around-The-Rosie) singing the verse above to the tune of The B-I-B-L-E. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - SPONGE CARDS (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: Foam sponges cut into shapes (You can make your own by tracing shapes onto regular kitchen sponges and cutting them out.) Tempera or poster board paint Small paper plates Old shirts or aprons for painting smocks Wet paper towels or baby wipes Plain white paper preferably card stock or other heavier grade (3 sheets for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Buy or make foam sponge shapes. Cover work surfaces with old newspaper. Divide and pour the paint onto separate paper plates, green on one plate, blue on another etc. Place the 2 sponges at each plate. Fold all the sheets of plain white paper in half. These will be the cards the children make. On the inside of each card print or type the words, JESUS CARES HOW YOU ARE FEELING. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Each child is given 3 cards to decorate with sponge painting. Read the inside of the card to them. Talk about who they can share them with this week. Let them be creative using the sponges to decorate. (Keep their fingers out of the paint and keep certain sponges at certain plates of paint. It takes too long and it's much too messy to keep cleaning the sponges out so they can be dipped into different colors.) Place the cards where they can dry before giving them to the children to take home. Remember next week to ask the children who they shared the cards with.
