******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, November 10, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: September 15, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, RUTH CHOSE TO LOVE GOD ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Showing love to others will help them to love Jesus. Memory Verse: "Your people will be my people and your God my God." Ruth 1:16, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - A PICTURE OF ME Materials needed: Shoe box Scissors Spool (with or without thread) Yarn Plain white paper Crayons WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make a camera out of the shoe box. Cut a whole in the front. Attach a spool onto for the button you push. Attach yarn to the side for a camera strap. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children draw a picture of themselves the way they think other people to see them. Give them time to add features. Place them in work areas where no one can see the other person's picture. Tell them to make it look as much like them as possible. Collect all the pictures and place them in your camera box. Pretend you are taking pictures of all the children. Take one of the colored pictures out of the box. Have everyone guess who it is. Continue in this manner until all the pictures are guessed. People know us by the way we look. It is important that people know us by the way we act also. In our Bible story today everyone knew Naomi was a kind, loving woman because that is the way she treated people. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - SPOON PUPPET BIBLE STORY Materials needed: Wooden spoons Scraps of material Ribbons, yarn Chenille stems (pipe cleaners) Wiggly eyes Scissors Hot glue gun/glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Place all the supplies in an area accessible to the group. You, the teacher, will work the hot glue gun. WHAT THE CHILDREN DOL Direct the children to the materials. Assign each child a specific character from the Bible story to make as a puppet. (Naomi, Elimelech, Mahlon, Chilion, Orpah, Ruth, Boaz. Other Israelites can be added for bigger groups.) Have them select eyes, materials for a garment, color of yarn for hair, Pipe cleaners for arms etc. As they bring you the spoon and the pieces, show them how to wrap the pipe cleaner around the spoon's neck and stretch out both ends to create arms. Hot glue the remaining materials on. When all puppets are made, narrate the Bible story and have them use their puppet as a visual when it's mentioned in the story. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE FOUR SQUARE Materials needed: Ball (Large one that bounces well) Masking tape (if playing inside Chalk (if playing outside) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) If you are playing outside, draw a four-square board on the parking lot or sidewalk. Make the squares large enough for a child to stand in and the ball to bounce in. If you are playing inside, use the masking tape to make a four-square game board. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Divide the verse into four sections: Section one - Your people Section two - will be my people Section three - and your God Section four - my God Place four children in the four squares. Designate which child will go first. Give them the ball. They say section one of the memory verse and bounce the ball to another child in the square. That child says section two of the verse and bounces the ball to another child. That child says section three of the verse and bounces the ball to the last child. He says the last section of the verse. Keep playing starting with different children and adding different children to the game. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - RHYTHM RHYME Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Sit the chairs in an oval WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Teach the children the following rhythm rhyme. WHAT I SAY (Feet stomp twice on ground while you say this whole line) AND WHAT I DO (Palms open, hands smack thighs twice while you say this whole line) IS HOW I SHOW (Hands clap together twice while you say this whole line) MY LOVE FOR YOU (Each child hugs himself then points in any direction) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children close their eyes. Shuffle them around and place each one in a chair in the oval. With eyes still shut have them say the rhythm rhyme with you. When they are finished, they open their eyes and see who they are pointing to. Have them shut their eyes again. Re-shuffle them in the oval. Repeat saying the rhythm rhyme again and pointing. Keep playing as time allows.
