****************************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, September 4, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: July 25, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use as a supplement to help teach the lesson, A DADDY ASKS JESUS FOR HELP ****************************************************************** Lesson Aim: Jesus wants us to be like Him and do kind things. Memory Verse: "Before they call I will answer......" Isa. 65:24, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - BELIEVING WITHOUT SEEING (An auditory activity) Materials needed: Blindfold for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Blindfold each child. Place them in a horizontal row with their backs all facing you. One by one ask them, "Do you believe I will catch you if you fall straight backwards?" (Encourage the child to try it if they are willing, but do not insist.) Remove the blindfolds and return to seats. Ask the following questions: 1. Was it hard to believe something you hadn't tried with me before? 2. If you could have seen, would it have been easier? In our story today a man is asked to believe Jesus can do something even though he cannot see it being done. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -MEMORY VERSE MESSAGE (An auditory activity) Materials needed: Play or real push button telephone Cassette recorder Blank cassette tape Blackboard OR write-on/wipe-off board OR newsprint paper WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Pre-record a special message for each child in the class. If your class is not too large and if time permits, you can record several messages for each child. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Write your phone number on a blackboard, write-on/wipe-off board or sheet of newsprint paper. Show the children how it contains seven digits or numbers. Ask them if any of them know their phone number. Copy them on the newsprint paper. Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. There are six words plus the text to be memorized. When they know the verse, have a child say each word and punch a number on the push button phone after each word. If they say the whole verse correctly with the text, they will have pushed seven buttons on the phone. Turn on the tape recorder and tell them the message they hear is for them. Give each child at least one turn and more if time allows. MESSAGES THAT CAN BE PRE-RECORDED: 1. Jesus loves you soooo much! 2. Jesus wants to be your best friend. 3. Jesus thinks your a neat kid! 4. Jesus loves to hear you talk to him. 5. Jesus made you special. 6. Jesus can't wait to show you your special home in heaven. 7. Jesus loves you all the time! 8. Jesus wants you to tell him everything. 9. Jesus will never leave you! 10.Jesus knows all the things that you need. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BELIEVE IT GAME (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Line the children up in a horizontal row across the back of the room. Space them at least two feet apart if possible. Tell them the game is similar to mother-may-I. You will tell them things Jesus said. If they believe what He said, they respond with "yes I do" then follow the instruction in parenthesis. If not, they remain where they are and wait for the next statement. (Example: You say, "Jesus said only He can forgive sins." Do you believe that? Children answer: "Yes, I do." You say, ("You may take three baby steps forward") The goal of the game is for all the children to end up at the front with you. You may need to add or take away statements depending on the size of your room and group. 1. Jesus said He would come back someday to take us to Heaven. Do you believe that? 2. Jesus said that when we do something kind for someone it's like we're doing it to Him. Do you believe that? 3. Jesus said we are to be like a servant to other people, putting them first. Do you believe that? 4. Jesus said we are to pray for people who don't like us and who treat us badly. Do you believe that? 5. Jesus said we should not try to see how many toys and goodies we can collect while we're living here on earth. Do you believe that? 6. Jesus said people will be able to tell whether we love Him or not by the way we act. Do you believe that? 7. Jesus said He will never leave us. Do you believe that? 8. Jesus said we are to forgive someone over and over again. Do you believe that? ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - BELIEVE BEADS KEY CHAIN Materials needed: Small packages of beads (one package for each child) Neon shoestrings (one string per child) Key chain circle OR notebook ring WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut each shoestring in half. Fold the end that was cut over the key chain circle or notebook ring and hot glue it down. The end that is left dangling is the end that the beads will be strung on. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle around you. Give them each a small package of beads. Have them choose a specific colored bead from the package, but before stringing it on ask the children to tell you one thing they believe about Jesus. Instruct the children not to run ahead of you stringing the beads. Do it together so that before each bead is strung, they have thought of something they believe about Jesus. The key chain can be taken home and shared with someone, or it can be left in the classroom and memory verses for the next quarter can be typed on paper keys and added to the chain each week.
