******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, August 25, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: July 31, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, TROUBLE IN THE CAMP ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: We can trust God to choose good leaders. Memory Verse: "'I will place shepherds over them who will tend them..,'declares the Lord." Jer. 23:4, NIV THE AUTHOR OF THIS SUPPLEMENT IS RECOMMENDING A CHANGE IN THE AIM AND MEMORY VERSE TO CAPTURE THE AGE AND EXPERIENCE OF A KINDERGARTEN CHILD. Lesson Aim: Good leaders choose God as their guide. Memory Verse: ".........choose you this day whom you will serve.........but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15 GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - LET'S PLAY FOLLOW THE LEADER Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children stand in a circle. Say, "Let's pretend we're at the zoo. We'll play follow the leader to see the animals that live there. Think of an animal that lives at the zoo. Don't tell us what it is. Show us by the way it moves, or looks or makes noise what it is. We will copy you and then guess where you have led us." (You, the teacher, start by giving an example. Make a trunk like an elephant. Sway it back and forth and make big steps standing in place. After the children copy you and guess what they are say, "Right! We're at the elephant house. Now have a child volunteer to do what you just did except pick a different animal.) In our Bible story today some of the children of Israel are disappointed in their leader, Moses. They forgot that God chose Moses to be their leader. Some of them choose a leader who does not love and obey God. Let's see what happens. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY CUBE Materials needed: Poster board cut into square pieces that measure 4" X 4" (Each child needs 6 squares) Tape Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make each child a cube by taping 6 squares together. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: As you tell the story have the children draw the following six points onto the sides of the cube, one point to a side. Simple symbols and stick figures are all that is necessary. As long as the children understand their own pictures. It does not matter what side they choose to draw the picture on. (For younger Kindergarten children you may choose to draw the pictures on ahead of time, and they color them as you go.) When you're done telling the story the children take turns tossing their cube. Whatever side lands face up is the part of the story the children recall for you. Encourage them to take their cubes home and share the story with their friends and family members. 1. The Children of Israel find out they have to spend forty more years in the desert. 2. Three men decide that they can be better leaders than Moses and Aaron. 3. Many people take sides with these three men and complain against Moses and Aaron. 4. Moses prays to God and God tells him what to do. 5. Rods with names were placed in the sanctuary. 6 Aaron's rod grew flower blossoms showing everyone that he was the chosen priest. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE SONG Materials needed: Cassette recorder or piano player Music for the tune of "Are You Sleeping" Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Have the children stand. Assign yourself the role as the leader. For each phrase of the memory verse put some kind of rhythm or movement to it. Choose you this day, Choose you this day, Whom to serve, Whom to serve. As for me and my house, As for me and my house, We'll serve God. We'll serve God. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - LEADER FLAGS Materials needed: (1) large thick Chenille stem (pipe cleaner) for each child (1) piece of square felt for each child (measures 6" X 7") colors can vary Colored foam shapes and alphabet letters (Wal-Mart) Elmer's glue Hot glue gun WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) From the colored foam alphabet letters find the letters needed to make the words: I CHOOSE JESUS for each child. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Remind the children that the Israelites who chose the leader that God had chosen made the best choice. Say, "When you copy what other children say and you do what other children do you are choosing them as your leader. Remember what the memory verse said? Let's choose leaders who want to love and follow Jesus." To reinforce this concept help the children make a banner for their bike (or anywhere else they want to wrap it). Have them choose a Chenille stem and colored fabric square. Hot glue the fabric square (the 7" side) around the Chenille stem. Give the children the colored foam shapes and letters to glue onto the "flag". Show them how to wrap the Chenille stem around things to carry the flag with them wherever they go. (In the car, on their bike, around their wrist etc.)
