****************************************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, June 12, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: May 1, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use as a supplement to help teach the lesson, GOD SAVES HIS PEOPLE ****************************************************************************** Lesson Aim: God works things out for our best. Memory Verse: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - PUPPET STORY (A visual & auditory activity) Materials needed: Two puppets (If store-bought ones aren't available, make simple ones from socks or felt squares) Script WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice having the following dialogue between the two puppets. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Practice the following dialogue and present it as a short puppet skit before the lesson story. PUPPET 1 - "Boy, I sure am scared!" (Make puppet shake and tremble) PUPPET 2 - "I can see that. What's the matter? You act like your sitting on an ice cube." PUPPET 1 - "My teacher just told me the principal wants to see me." PUPPET 2 - "The principal! Huh, oh. What did you do now?" PUPPET 1 - "I don't know. She didn't say. She just told me to go to his office and wait." PUPPET 2 - "You poor thing. I've heard some pretty scary stories from kids who've ended up in there." PUPPET 1 - "Does he spank you?" PUPPET 2 - "I imagine so. He has all kinds of ways of punishing kids who end up in his office." PUPPET 1 - "Oh, now I'm really really scared. What am I going to do? Maybe I'll just pretend my teacher never gave me the message. Maybe I'll tell him my mom's at home sick and I need to get right home. Maybe.........." PUPPET 2 - "Hold on there. You don't know why he wants to see you. Maybe you'd better just go find out before you start jumping to any conclusions. That reminds me of our Bible story today. It's about a queen who needed to go in to see the king. Only the king didn't call for her. And the king didn't like it when people came to see him without being called." PUPPET 1 - "I wonder if she got up the nerve to go." PUPPET 2 - "Let's find out!" GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - PASS THE SCEPTER (An auditory & kinesthetic activity) Materials needed: A stick OR curtain rod OR any other straight object Tin Foil WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Wrap the tin foil around the straight object to make a "scepter". WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Set the children in a circle. Give the scepter to one of the children. They are to hang onto it until they hear you mention the name of Esther in the story. Then they pass the scepter on to the child to their right. Tell the children to listen carefully to the story and continue passing the scepter whenever Esther's name is mentioned. Remind them at the appropriate time in the story that when the king passed the scepter to Esther it was his way of showing that she had done the right thing by coming to see him. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE WALL OF PROTECTION (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: 10 boxes (packing boxes from grocery or retail stores) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Explain how having God on our side makes like a wall of protection around us from Satan. Have the children stand in a tight group. The object of the activity is for them to "build a wall" surrounding themselves using the boxes. They may add a box for each word of the memory verse they can recall. Call on different children to recite a word and add a box. Practice making a "wall" in many different ways by stacking the boxes differently each time. The meaning and application of the verse will be further explored in the Acting on Scripture Activity. Save the boxes because they will be used again. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - Materials needed: Boxes from above activity Markers/crayons Picture from a coloring book of an angel Scissors Glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox copies of the picture of an angel so that each child has one. Enlarge it as big as possible. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child their picture of an angel to color and cut out. While they are working ask the following questions: 1. What does it mean when someone is against you? (They don't agree with you or want to go along with you; they may want to cause you trouble) 2. Can you think of a time when it felt like someone was against you? (A friend wouldn't be your friend anymore? Someone wouldn't help you when you needed it? Someone hurt you on purpose?) 3. Does knowing God is with you no matter who is against you make you feel better? After the children have finished their angels, they can each glue them on one of the sides of the boxes so the wall is covered with angels. Remind them that Jesus sends a "wall of angel protection" to surround them and give them courage just like He did for the Jews.
