******************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, June 3, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: April 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JUDAS' BIG MISTAKE ******************************************************** Lesson Aim: We are happy when we are unselfish. Memory Verse: "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness......" Matthew 6:33, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - DIAL A WORD Materials needed: Push button phone (more than one if your group is larger than 6 children at a time) 3 X 5 cards (one for each child) Pencils or pens WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) In the center of each child's 3 X 5 card print the following: 7 3 5--- 3 4 7 4 (L) (M) (L) (L) (L) (L) (M) ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a 3 X 5 card. Explain that the numbers are a phone number. If they look on the push button phone for the first number (7) they will see three alphabet letters. The (L) under the 7 means that they should write the last letter in the group of letters on the phone on the blank under the 7. (The answer is "S") What is the next number in the phone number? Three. Look for the 3 on the push button phone. The (M) under the three means print the middle letter off the phone onto the blank. Continue in this manner until all the children have written an alphabet letter under each numeral of their phone number. The word spelled on their 3 X 5 card describes the main man in the Bible story today. (SELFISH) GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE COUNTING STORY Materials needed: Paper (1 small piece for each child) Pencils or pens Change purse or wallet 30 pennies WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Highlight the name of Judas in the lesson quarterly. There will be 25 times that it occurs. Find 5 other places you can cross out the name, "he" and substitute the name "Judas" in place of it. You need to say the name of Judas a total of 30 times during the Bible story account. Place the 30 pennies in the change purse or wallet. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children the change purse or wallet. Tell them in the lesson today one man's selfishness destroyed his life. For the amount of money in the change purse one man was willing to tell Jesus' killers where He was. Give each child a paper and pencil or pen. They are to make a mark on their paper each time they hear the name of Judas spoken as you narrate the story. After the story help them count their marks. Then count the pennies in the change purse. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - BLOCKS OF UNSELFISHNESS Materials needed: Play money or pictures of money Pictures of toys Pictures of children doing things for others Pictures or cut-outs of hearts Pictures of clothing Several pictures of Jesus Pictures of the Bible, churches, VBS invitations 5 grocery store-type boxes Scissors Glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Find 2-3 pictures of each category above. The pictures will be glued onto boxes, so they can't be ones that are being saved. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child or pair of children a grocery store box and a set of pictures. They are to glue their pictures on the sides of the box. Talk with the children about how they can be unselfish with their: money, toys, time, love, clothing and with their knowledge of Jesus. (The money pictures go on one box, the toys on a 2nd, the children doing things on a 3rd, the hearts on a 4th, the clothing on a 5th, the pictures of Jesus on a 6th and the Bible, church and VBS invitation on the 7th. Go straight into the next GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE activity. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE TOWER Materials needed: Bibles Boxes from previous activity Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Read the entire verse not just the Kindergarten portion. Talk about what the verse means. When we seek to be like Jesus in every way we won't need to be selfish. Jesus will take care of us and what we need. Assign each child or pair of children a verse word to write on the blank side of the box they already glued pictures on. Help them stack the boxes on top of one another in a tower fashion. Box 1 - Pictures of Jesus (with the word seek on the box). The rest of the boxes can come in any order. Knock the tower down and re-stack it as many times as desired to learn the verse.
