******************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, May 27, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: April 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, PETER'S BIG MISTAKE ******************************************************** Memory Verse: "You are forgiving and good, O Lord." Psalm 86:5, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - ROOSTER ROUND-UP Materials needed: Picture of a rooster (Enlarge & xerox the one on p. 32 in the Kindergarten quarterly) Red construction paper Small pipe cleaners Feathers Small wiggly eyes Scissors Elmer's glue WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox a small picture of a rooster for each child. Make each child a crown for on top of the rooster's head out of the red construction paper. Cut the pipe cleaners into appropriate lengths for the legs of the rooster. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a rooster picture, a red crown, some feathers (for the tail), a wiggly eye and two pipe cleaners. Have them assemble and glue the pieces on the appropriate places on the rooster. (Add three-toed feet to the pipe cleaner legs.) Ask the children if they have ever heard a rooster crow. What does it sound like? There is a rooster in the Bible story today. It's crowing makes the disciple, Peter, feel very bad. Let's see why. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -DUCK, DUCK ROOSTER MEMORY VERSE GAME Materials needed: Blindfold Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle on the floor. Show them where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Blindfold one of the children. He walks around the outside of the circle tapping each child on the head and saying, "duck". When he taps someone on the head and says, "rooster" that child repeats the memory verse. If they can repeat it, they become the "ducker" that walks around on the outside. If they cannot repeat it, they remain seated in the circle and the original "ducker" continues around. (The "ducker" remains blindfolded whenever they are rotating around the circle) The "ducker" does not join the circle until he finds someone who can repeat the memory verse. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - PRETEND PUPPET PLAY Materials needed: 1 boy puppet 1 girl puppet WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Explain to the children that there are many times when we can tell others what we know and love about Jesus. Let's play the "What would you say" game. I'm going to pretend that I am someone asking you a question. When you think of an answer that you would give you may use the puppet and give me your response. (There may be more than one response to your question with several children participating with the puppet to each question.) 1. Who is Jesus? 2. How did you learn about Him? 3. Why do you love Him? 4. How can I find out more about Him? 5. Why do you talk to Him? 6. Would you help me say something to Him? ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - FORGIVENESS CHAIN Materials needed: Colored construction paper Pencils or pens Glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the colored construction paper into different size strips. Make some small narrow strips and some large wide strips. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children to help you think of different sins to write on the strips of paper. Have them categorize the sins according to their "size", writing the "small" sins on the little strips of paper and the "big" sins on the larger strips of paper. Let them help you put the chain together. Then give each child a pair of scissors. Can Jesus only forgive the "small" sins? (No; have a child snip apart a small link in the chain.) When we make mistakes that we think even Jesus can't forgive, can He still forgive us? (Yes; have a child snip apart a large link in one of the chains.) Give all the children opportunity to snip apart the chain by cutting the links. Chains are used to bind or hold things together. Jesus does not want any of our sins to hold us to Satan. No matter what size the sins may seem to us, Jesus wants to forgive us from all of them. He wants all sin to be destroyed in us forever.
