******************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, May 13, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: March 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, REMEMBERING JESUS ******************************************************** Lesson Aim: Jesus' special supper with His disciples reminds us of His love for us. Memory Verse; "............you should do as I have done for you." John 13:15, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - SERVANT DUTIES Materials needed: Article of clothing A couple of doll dishes or a real plate with knife, fork and spoon attached A sponge attached to some cleaner A small pillow and blanket Play cleaning tools such as a broom, feather duster etc. Play food or box or can of real food Baby doll A large blanket or sheet that is big enough to cover the above items WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Assemble the above items at a point where all the group can see them. Cover them with the sheet or blanket. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children if they know what a servant is. (Someone who does things to help another person.) To find out what some things are that a servant might do you will uncover the items and give the children 30 seconds to look at them. Then re-cover the items and ask for ideas based on what they saw. (Also encourage ideas about servant duties that are not based on only the items you brought.) In our story today Jesus wants His special friends, the disciples, to act like servants to each other. He shows them how to be a servant by the way He treats them. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - LESSON DRAMATIZATION **THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTION IS RECOMMENDED TO BE A REPRESENTATION OF THE LESSON TO THE CHILDREN, THE SAME AS ANY OTHER STORY HAS BEEN DRAMATIZED. IF YOU OR THE PARENTS OF THE CHILDREN IN YOUR CLASS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH IT, SKIP IT. Materials needed: Communion basin & several towels Pita bread Small (3 oz.) Bathroom disposable cups Grape juice Napkins Pitcher Water WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: As you tell the different parts of the story, show the articles as visual lessons. How much you allow the children to participate is up to you. (You could wash the feet of those who are comfortable with it and allow them to help wash yours. You could give them small pieces of Pita bread and grape juice to drink as you explain what they represent.) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE WASHCLOTH Materials needed: Cheap dollar store washcloth for each child (white) (If that is too expensive, cut up an old towel or two into small washcloth-size squares and hem the edges) Fabric crayons (Make sure the color doesn't come off when the washcloth is wet) Pencil Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) With a pencil write the memory verse on each's child's washcloth. Write large enough so that it takes up the whole cloth. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give each child a washcloth. Have them trace over the letters with fabric crayons. Explain that each morning when they are washing their face with their special rag and caring for themselves, the words will help them remember how Jesus cared for his friends. They can think of ways they can be a servant to their family and friends for that day. To help the children commit the verse to memory do the following activity: Have the children stand in a circle with you in the center. Ask for a volunteer that knows the memory verse. They hand you their washcloth. You pretend to clean your body with it. If they repeat the whole verse before you're done, they get their washcloth back and they go to the center and become the "washer". If they don't, they remain in the circle and you choose another child to repeat the process with. Whenever a child says the memory verse, they go to the center of the circle and it's their turn to pick someone in the circle. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE -SERVING SONG Materials needed: Cassette Player or piano player Music to "There was a farmer Had a Dog and Bingo was His Name" Poster board OR blackboard Medium to write on board WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) If you do not have a piano player, record the tune above several times on a blank cassette tape. Write the alternate words below on the board of your choice. Even though many children cannot read in the class, they will be able to follow the letters, S-E-R-V-E. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Use the alternate words below to teach the children a song about serving others in love. There is a way to show your love to others every day It's S-E-R-V-E S-E-R-V-E S-E-R-V-E And Jesus showed us how Traditionally when the song is sung, the children clap each time they say a letter from S-E-R-V-E. Some variations may include: Two children facing each other smacking their palms together Each individual child hitting top legs with open palms Make sure and talk about simple ways children can serve each other throughout the day between each verse of singing.
