******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, May 8, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: March 15, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, A KING'S STRANGE DREAM ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: When God does something for us, we want to praise Him. Memory Verse: "....the Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets." Amos 3:7, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - WHO CAN CIRCLE (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children stand in a circle. Ask them the following questions. If it is something they think they can do, they move to the middle of the circle. If not, they stay in the peripheral of the circle. Have the children move back to the peripheral of the circle before you advance to each new question. 1. Who can tell what colors I have on today? (Most will be able to move into the circle) 2. Who can tell me for sure what I will be eating for supper three days from now? (None will know for sure, just guessing.) 3. Who can tell whether I'm married or not? (Most will be able to move into the circle) 4. Who can tell us the exact kind of weather we will have on Sabbath, May 22, which is three weeks from now? (None can be sure, only guessing) 5. Who can tell me what I dreamed recently? (None can be sure, only guessing) Have the children sit back down in their seats. Do you know who can tell you the answers to all of those questions? Daniel knew. In our Bible story today he shows King Nebuchadnezzar that only God can do certain things. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - RE-CREATING THE DREAM (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: P. 23 in Kindergarten quarterly xeroxed (one copy for each child; xerox on as light a setting as possible.) Scissors Glue-sticks Crayons Construction paper (1 sheet for each child) Envelopes WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox p. 23 in Kindergarten quarterly, one for each child. Cut out the image in the picture, and then cut the image apart as five pieces (head, chest & arms, belly and trunk, legs, feet). Place each child's five pieces in an envelope and paper clip the envelope to a piece of construction paper. Provide glue-sticks and crayons at a work area. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: As you narrate the story have the children take the appropriate image piece from their envelope and glue it to their piece of construction paper. When the image is completed, use the crayons to color the pieces appropriately. (Gold - head; silver - chest & arms; Copper - belly & trunk; black - legs; white and black for feet). Make sure and emphasize that Daniel did not claim to know how to tell or interpret dreams. He gave God the praise and credit for doing it. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE REVIEW (An auditory activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle. Tell them you have a "secret" to tell them about God. Beginning with the child to your immediate right, whisper the words, "The Lord does nothing." Whisper clearly and distinctly. When they are sure they know the message, they are to whisper it in the ear of the child to their right. The message continues to go around the circle until it is back to the child on your immediate left. They are to tell what the message is. If they are correct, say it altogether and move on to the second message. If it is incorrect, try to send the first message around again. The second message is: "..........without revealing His plan........." The third message is "...............to his servants the prophets." After all three messages have circulated and come back to you correctly, ask the children if they know what the secret is? The secret is God does not keep secrets! He makes sure we know whatever He is going to do. He lets us know through the Bible, through special people called prophets and through prayer. We never have to be worried that He is keeping something secret from us that we need to know. Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - PRAISE CHAIN Materials needed: Construction Paper (Several sheets) Scissors Glue-sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the construction paper into narrow strips. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children to think of things God has done that they want to praise Him for. Each time a child submits an idea, they choose a strip of colored construction paper and glue the ends together making a chain link. After the first link, make sure each link hooks to the previous link before gluing. Have a prayer with the children that they will remember this week to tell others about God's goodness whenever they have the chance. Some ideas for praise strips: I want to praise God because I was able to play outside when the weather was so nice. I want to praise God because I have two good arms to help mom or dad with a job this week. I want to praise God because I felt so full and satisfied after a meal this week. I want to praise God because I learned a new game this week, and He helps me think and learn. (Be sensitive to your class's lifestyles and situations.)
