******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, April 28, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: March 15, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THE BOY WHO LOVED GOD ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Jesus is with us even in our troubles. Jesus will help us be kind to our brothers and sisters. Memory Verse: "Surely I am with you always." Matt. 28:20, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - JEALOUS ACTS Materials needed: Small slips of 1" X 1" pieces of paper (Large enough to write an alphabet letter on) (7 papers for each child) Marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's seven slips of paper write the following letters, one letter to a paper: J E A L O U S. Mix the papers up and lay them all out together on a table or on the floor with all the letters face up. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children the following questions. If their answer is yes to the question they choose the letter you tell them to from the pile. After all the children have chosen out their seven letters, show them how to arrange them so that they spell the word, jealous. In our Bible story today some brothers' jealousy led them to do a very wicked thing. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. 1. Would you be upset if mommy bought your brother or sister a whole candy bar and she only gave you a piece of one? (Pick up a "J") 2. Would you be upset if your aunt came to visit and took your sister to the toy store and left you at home? (Pick up an "E") 3. Would you be upset if your grandma took your brother home with her but left you at home? (Pick up an "A") 4. Would you be upset if your mom and dad took the family to the fair and left you at home? (Pick up an "L") 5. Would you be upset if your mom made the rule that everyone had to help with the jobs around the house except your sister? (Pick up an "O") 6. Would you be upset if your brother or sister ALWAYS got to sit next to your mom and you never got a turn? (Pick up a "U") 7. Would you be upset if your mother talked about how smart and pretty your sister was to everyone, but she hardly ever talked about you? (Pick up an "S") GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE COAT Materials needed: Construction paper (red, yellow, green, blue, purple, orange) Scissors Glue sticks 1 sheet of plain white paper for each child Pencil Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's sheet of plain white paper draw an outline of a young boy's Bible times coat. Draw lines to divide the coat into six sections. Cut each child a section of construction paper from each color. Cut them the size of the six sections of the coat. (They will be glued onto the coat.) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give each child a Bible times coat, six sections of colored construction paper and a glue stick. As you repeat each word of the memory verse, glue a colored section onto the Bible times coat on the white paper. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - JACKS OF LOVE Materials needed: 10 large plastic jacks 1 ball WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle on the floor. Place the ten jacks in a circle inside the circle of children. Place the ball in the middle of the jacks. Remind the children of the dreams Joseph had concerning the sheaves that bowed down to him and the stars that bowed down to him. Have the children pretend that the jacks are Joseph's brothers and the ball is Joseph. They are to think of kind respectful things they can do for family members. (It doesn't have to be brothers and sisters) Every time a child thinks of something kind or respectful that can be done, you bounce that ball in the center of the circle, the child picks up a jack and catches the ball. The object of the activity is to get all Joseph's brothers picked up. Some children may not have the hand-eye coordination necessary to catch the ball. Provide them with a shoebox or basket to catch the ball in. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - IN THE PITS Materials needed: Large clean rubber trash can Paper arrow WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make large paper arrow. WHAT THE CHILDREN: Have the children stand in a circle and hold hands. Place the large trash can in the center of the circle. Place the arrow near the trash can pointing toward the children in the circle. Explain to the children that the trash can is a pit. Remember when Joseph was thrown into the pit? It was the beginning of sorrow and trouble. Sometimes we get into pits. We fall into unhappy and troublesome times. What did Joseph need to remember in the pit? Our memory verse, "Surely I am with you always." Matt. 28:20 That's what we need to remember and repeat over and over to ourselves when things aren't looking good. Have everyone close their eyes and begin circling around the trash can. When you say, "stop" everyone stops and opens their eyes. Whoever the arrow is pointing to climbs into the "pit" or trash can. Ask him what might be causing him unhappiness or trouble. (You may have to make suggestions like, Have you ever been unhappy because your parents were going somewhere and you couldn't go with them?) The child in the pit must then recite the memory verse in order to be able to climb out. (Help as is necessary) That child then rejoins the circle and the circling around the pit begins again. Play as long as time allows or until each child has had at least one turn.
