************************************************************ Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, April 22, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: March 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, HOW DO WE KNOW JESUS IS COMING? ************************************************************* Lesson Aim: Until Jesus comes, angels will care for us. Memory Verse: "He will command his angels concerning you to guard you........." Psa. 91:11, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - PAYING ATTENTION TO SIGNS Materials needed: Draw pictures of the following road signs or xerox them. Do each sign on a 8 « X 11 sheet of paper. Traffic signal ahead sign Sign that shows a curve in the road Railroad crossing sign Sign that shows two lanes merging down to one Dinner size paper plates (one for each child) Scissors WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Tack the pictures up around the walls of the room. Tack them low enough for Kindergarten-age children to be able to see easily. Make a steering wheel for each child by cutting triangular holes in the dinner place. The leftover frame is the steering wheel. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a steering wheel. They are to pretend they are driving a car. They may move around until you say, "stop". Then they must immediately park their car and listen for instructions. Ask them to drive to the sign that tells them there is a traffic light up ahead. After everyone has completed that task they may drive around some more until you say, "stop". Then they park their car and wait for the next direction. Ask them to drive to the sign that shows there is a curve up ahead in the road. Thirdly have them drive to the sign warning about the railroad crossing coming up. Finally drive to the sign that shows your lane is running out and merging into another one. In-between each request, they may freely drive their car around until you say, "stop". If they do not obey your rules of the road, they have to park permanently in their chair. If you were driving a real car, would you be glad for road signs to tell you what is ahead? In our story today Jesus tells the disciples about some special signs that let us know what is up ahead before Jesus returns from Heaven. Let's what some of them are. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -MEMORY VERSE NIGHT LITE Materials needed: Glow-in-the-dark paper (8 « X 11 sheet for each child) Angel figure to use as a pattern (size: 8 « X 11) (Trace one from the 3-yr. Felt cycle set) Scissors Small thin dowel stick (one for each child) Tape Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Trace one angel for each child onto a piece of glow- in-the-dark paper. The outline of the angel needs to look distinct, but the inner details are not necessary. Print the memory verse on each angel. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give each child an angel to cut out and a small thin dowel stick to tape it to. If your room is dark enough or if there is a dark closet the group can go into, take the angels and twirl them between your palms repeating the memory verse together. Encourage the children to repeat the memory verse each night at bedtime as they see the reminder of their night lite angel. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - STOP SIGN BIBLE STORY Materials needed: Red construction paper Scissors Popsicle sticks Tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make each child a stop sign. Cut the sign from red construction paper and tape it to a popsicle stick. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a stop sign. Explain that all through the story you will be telling them about signs that Jesus gave the disciples and us so we would know that He was almost ready to return. As you go through the story each time anyone hears you mention one of the signs, they hold up their stop sign. They then have to tell you what sign they heard you mention. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - MIME SIGNS Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children to think of events they look forward to with excitement. Then one by one they act out the event so the other children can guess what it is. The child who guesses is the next to have a turn. Following are some suggestions for events. Pick one of the events to act out first to give the children an example of what you are looking for. They will be able to think of many that are not suggested below: 1. Birthday parties 2. Dessert 3. A vacation or special trip 4. A special show on TV 5. A special playmate or visitor coming to your house 6. Christmas or other holiday Jesus wants us to look forward to His coming just like we look forward to these special events in our lives. He doesn't want us to concentrate on the scary or hard-looking signs that will happen before He comes. He wants us to think a lot about how wonderful it will be to see Him and be with Him.
