******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, April 7, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: March 15, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, REBEKAH BECOMES A BRIDE ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God will guide us in every decision. Memory Verse: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go." Ps. 32:8, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - MAKING THE PERFECT BOY/GIRL Materials needed: (2) sheets of plain white butcher block paper (3' tall each) (2) glue sticks Felt, fabric, construction paper, Scissors Crayons Tape Buttons Bows WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Tape the two sheets of plain white butcher block paper next to each other on the wall at eye level to a Kindergarten child. On both sheets draw a gingerbread type figure large enough to cover the whole paper. Do not add any features. Make features from the felt, fabric and construction paper. (Felt hats and shoes, fabric shirts, skirts and pants, construction paper socks, ties, watches etc.) Put all the features including the buttons, bows and crayons in a basket or box. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: The boys take turns selecting features to glue to one of the gingerbread figures to create a boy that they like. The girls take turns selecting features to glue to the other figure to create a girl that they like. The colors can also be used to make hair, skin color, etc. When the children are finished and seated say, "In our lesson today Abraham's servant, whose name was Eliezer, goes to another land to look for a girl. Abraham wants him to find a wife for his son, Isaac. Eliezer doesn't know whether the girl will have dark hair or light hair, dark skin or light skin. How will she be dressed? How will he recognize the right perfect girl to be Isaac's wife? Let's see what he does." GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY DOMINOES Materials needed: Sheet of white paper Ruler Scissors Pen WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out six pieces of paper from the white sheet, each piece measuring 2 l/2" by 5". With the pencil and ruler divide each of the six pieces of paper in half. On the 12 halves draw a picture or symbol as indicated below: 1. A 2. Picture of a camel 3. B 4. Picture of Rebekah 5. C 6. Picture of Abraham 7. D 8. Picture of Eliezer 9. E 10. Picture of a sack 11. F 12. Picture of Isaac These are Bible Domino cards. Xerox them 18 times. There should be a total of 108 cards. Shuffle the cards. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle. Give each child six cards. Lay the rest of the cards face down on the floor in the middle of the circle. Turn the top card over and display it. Choose a child in the circle to begin the game. They must lay down a "domino" card that matches one end or the other of the one lying on the floor. If they don't have a match, they say pass. If they do have a match, they lay it down then draw one from the draw pile. When they lay down a domino, ask them a question about the character or object they just matched. The question should have something to do with the Bible story. (Example: How many camels did Eliezer have? Who gave the camels a drink? Don't be concerned about asking the same questions over and over. Kindergarten children still need a lot of repetition to reinforce concepts in their minds.) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BLIND MAN'S GUIDE Materials needed: Blindfold 4 sheets of paper Scissors (4) dowel sticks Play-doh Red Crayon Bibles Scotch tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the four sheets of paper into the shape of a stop sign. Write STOP on them and color them red. Tape them to the dowel sticks and stick the dowel sticks into the cups of Play-doh, which act as bases. Set the stop signs in various spots around the room. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Practice saying it together several times. Blindfold one of the children. Repeat the memory verse to him, then lead him to one of the stop signs. At the sign repeat the memory verse again. Lead him to a second stop sign. Repeat the memory verse again. Do this until the child has been led to all four stop signs. He then takes the blindfold off and becomes the leader. Blindfold another child. The leader leads him to each of the stop signs repeating the memory verse at each one. The blindfolded child always becomes the leader. The last child blindfolded will have to lead you back around, so they have a chance to be the leader. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - FOOTPRINT FOLLOW-UP Materials needed: Footprints (5 Kindergarten size for each child) Marking pen Bibles (one for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out five footprints for each child. On one of the footprints color the big toe and write the words, "I will instruct you". On another footprint color the second toe and write the words, "and teach you". On a third footprint color the middle toe and write the words, "in the way". On a fourth footprint color the fourth toe and write the words, "you should go." On the fifth footprint color the pinky and write the text, Ps. 32:8. Stick each child's footprints in random places in their Bible. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children look through their Bibles and locate the footprints. Then they put them on the floor leading away from each other in the order in which the toes are colored. Point to each footprint and say the memory verse with them. Talk about how the best way we can know how God wants to guide us is by reading and learning His Word, the Bible. As they become older and better able to read they will need to treasure this book. In the meantime, they must learn to discipline themselves to listen when others read it to them. Ask questions, talk about what they hear or don't understand.
