******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, March 17, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: January 31, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, VISITORS FROM HEAVEN ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God sends His angels to bring messages and to guide us. Memory Verse: "Come, you who are blessed by my Father...I was hungry and you gave me something to eat." Matt. 25:34,35, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - STARRY NIGHT Materials needed: Blue construction paper (one sheet for each child) 50 self-stick stars for each child Pencil WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's piece of blue construction paper make 50 dots with the pencil. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a piece of blue construction paper filled with pencil dots and 50 stars. Have them cover each pencil dot with a star sticker. In our Bible story today God makes some promises to Abraham. One of the first ones is about his children. God tells Abraham to go out and look up at the sky. It is covered with stars just like your paper is. God promises that Abraham's family will be as big as the star-covered night. Let's discover what other promises God makes to Abraham. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY COUNTERS Materials needed: (1) wire hanger for each child wire cutter 50 beads for each child A square block of clay for each child (1" X 1" solid) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the sides of each child's hanger, so that they are left with just the long base or bottom of the hanger. (This will be the pole for their counter) Insert each "pole" into the square block of clay, which is the base of the counter. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a counter and 50 beads. Tell them the Bible story today is full of numbers. As you go through the story help them add or subtract beads from their counter as they hear the numbers mentioned in the story. 1. Add 3 beads for the three visitors. 2. ***Make sure and bring out the fact that God promised Abraham would have a son. That is one of the promises God made during this visit, but it is not mentioned in the lesson. 3. Add 47 more beads to represent the Sodomites Abraham pleaded for. 4. Take away 5 beads to represent the 45 Sodomites Abraham pleaded for. 5. Take away 15 beads to represent the 30 Sodomites Abraham pleaded for. 6. Take away 10 beads to represent the 20 Sodomites Abraham pleaded for. 7. Take away 10 beads to represent the 10 Sodomites Abraham pleaded for. Encourage the children to take the counters home and share the story with their family and friends. Next week you will remind them how few beads were left on the counter at the end of this week's lesson. Make sure and put the beads in bags for the children to take with them. THE AUTHOR OF THIS SUPPLEMENT IS DEVIATING FROM THE AIM AND RECOMMENDING A DIFFERENT AIM. GOD'S FAITHFULNESS IN HIS PROMISES TO ABRAHAM ENCOURAGES OUR LOVE AND FAITH IN HIM EVEN AS A KINDERGARTEN CHILD. HIS FAITHFULNESS TO ME SHOWS ME HOW TO BE FAITHFUL TO OTHERS. MOST KINDERGARTNERS DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER ENTERTAINING OTHERS IN THE HOME. THEY ARE COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON HOW THEIR PARENTS ARRANGE THAT. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE- SCRIPTURE SONG Materials needed: Bibles Music to the tune of "The Farmer In the Dell" Piano player or cassette recorder Star paper from Getting Their Attention activity Smallest diameter dowel stick available (1 for each child) Hot glue gun WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary except to record the song if you do not have a piano player and learn it. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Look up the text, Lamentations 3:22,23 and read it to the children. Explain to them that the verse means that God never runs out of love for us. Everyday He is faithful to us and does what He promises because He loves us as much today as He did the day before. That is the secret of how we can be faithful and keep our promises to our families and friends. Everyday no matter what others may say or do to us we can treat them kindly and with respect because Jesus gives us a new love for them in our hearts every day. Help the children turn their star paper into a banner to wave by hot gluing it to the dowel stick. Teach the children the song about God's faithfulness and have them march around the room singing it and waving their banner. Great is thy faithfulness Great is thy faithfulness Your love for me is new each day Great is thy faithfulness ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - FAITHFUL LEAPS Materials needed: 3 X 5 cards (8 cards for each child) Permanent marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each of the children's eight 3 X 5 cards print the following letters, one letter to a card. F A I T H F U L WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child their eight 3 X 5 cards. Have them lay them down on the floor in the correct order in a horizontal line and then take two steps back from them. Ask them to think of a way they can be faithful to someone else. The first child to think of a way, calls out one of the letters on their card and everyone leaps to that letter and stands on it. After the child states a way to be faithful, everyone picks up that letter and returns to their original standing position. Every time someone thinks of a way to be faithful the same procedure follows. Below are some ideas to encourage faithfulness. 1. Do your jobs at home even when there's no one there to remind you. 2. Keep being someone's friend even if they're not always nice to you. 3. Keep inviting others to church even if they don't seem interested right away. 4. Keep sharing your things with your brother or sister even when they don't always share with you. 5. Keep praying about something, even if you can't see Jesus' answer to your prayer right away.
