******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, February 13, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 1998 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, BIRDS FEED A HUNGRY MAN ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Jesus cares for all those who love and serve Him. Memory Verse: "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him." Matt. 6:8, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - MESSAGE GIVERS (An auditory & kinesthetic activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children if they know what a messenger is? (Someone who gives a message or delivers something.) Does a messenger change the message before he delivers it? (No) Does a messenger deliver it whenever he wants or when he is told to? (When he is told to) Have the children practice being good messengers. One at a time they come to you. Whisper a command to them and tell them who to deliver the message to. They go to that person, deliver the message in his/her ear and return to their seat. The person who received the message then carries out the command. State whether or not the message was heard correctly and carried out. Continue doing this until all children have had a chance to be a messenger. Sample messages: 1. Turn off the lights. 2. Get up, walk around all the children's chairs then sit back down. 3. Jump up and down five times. 4. Clap your hands four times then touch your nose. 5. Stand up, turn around then sit back down. In our story today God used two messengers, one was a person and one was something that lives in nature. Listen closely and see if you can tell who they are. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - AUDIENCE SOUND EFFECTS (An auditory activity) Materials needed: Large piece of paper Yellow, blue, red & green marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Highlight or underline the following words in the lesson quarterly in four different colors: Idols - yellow Rain - blue Message - red Flour and oil - green On the large piece of paper make a yellow circle, a blue circle, a red circle and a green circle. Color them in so they're very visible to the children. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Place the colored circles paper near where you can point to it as you go through the Bible story. 1. Point to the yellow circle. Tell the children it stands for the word idol or idols. Whenever the children hear you say that word in the story they are to say, "Oh no!" (In a dramatic way.) Practice doing that together. 2. Point to the red circle. Tell the children it stands for the word message. Whenever they hear you say that word in the story they are to say, "Really?" (In a questioning way.) Practice doing it together. 3. Point to the blue circle. Tell the children it stands for the word rain. Whenever they hear you say that word in the story they are to say, "Too bad!" (In a sad tone) Practice doing it together. 4. Point to the green circle. Tell the children it stands for the words flour and oil. Whenever they hear you say that word in the story they are to say, "Goody!" (In an excited way.) Practice doing it together. Tell the Bible story. Whenever you come to one of your highlighted words, point to the colored circle that goes with it and help the children with the appropriate response. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE LOAVES Materials needed: Small mini-loaf pans (One for each child) Packages of easy to mix sweet bread (Make sure and buy the ingredients listed on the package) White sticky-back labels (one for each loaf pan) Necessary kitchen and mixing utensils Cooking oil spray Sharp knife Napkins WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make sure you have all the necessary ingredients and supplies necessary for each child to make a small mini loaf of sweet bread. Print the memory verse on the white sticky back labels. Each child will need a label for their loaf pan. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Seat the children at a table around. Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Discuss the different things Jesus provides us with because He loves and cares for each of us. Mix up the sweet bread, giving the children turns measuring and stirring. Place in loaf pans and stick a memory verse label on each one. Make one extra sample loaf for the children to share at the end of class. Make sure each child's name is on the label. Cook the prescribed amount of time. Remove from oven and allow to cool. Cut the sample bread into slices. As you pass one out to each student, repeat the memory verse before giving it to them. Encourage the children to repeat it with you as you go around the circle. Since some children do not eat in-between meals, provide sandwich bags and have all children take the bread home for after lunch. In addition, give each child their loaf of bread to take home. Encourage them to share their loaf with the memory verse as they have seen you do for their Sabbath lunch. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - A VALENTINE FOR JESUS Materials needed: One slice of toast for each child Blunt table knives or popsicle sticks Peanut Butter Bird seed Scissors Sandwich bags WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut each child's toast so it is in the shape of a heart. Waste as little toast as possible. Cover a flat work surface area with newspaper. (To catch the peanut butter/bird seed mess.) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. Jesus should get our very first and best valentine, because He loves us the most and cares for us the best. What He wants most is for each boy and girl to love Him back and be his friend. The best valentine you can give Jesus is yourself. (Have a prayer of dedication for each child.) Something else we can do on Valentine's Day is to care for Jesus' nature friends. This shows that we are like Jesus. 1. Give each child a slice of heart toast. 2. Have them spread a very thin layer of peanut butter on the toast. 3. Next sprinkle bird seed and press down onto the peanut butter. 4. Last, place toast in a bag to take home and lay in the bird feeder or on a deck or porch. 5. Clean-up!
